    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Ubuntu displayport compatibility

Thanks for the replies. The problem was that, even though I had the proprietary Nvidia drivers available, I was actually using the open source ones. Here were the steps to fix the issue: - I opened software updater - Went to Additional Drivers - Under Nvidia I had 'Using X.Org X Server'...

    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Ubuntu displayport compatibility

I have had a single monitor connected to my laptop via hdmi for a while. I have bought a second monitor and connected it via mini DP. This causes ubuntu to enter low graphics mode and I cannot use the UI. I have tried mini DP to hdmi and vga without success. I have tried installing dispaylink b...

    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Wifi dies unexpectedly

Hi, I did actually upgrade to kernel 5. I couldn't then boot into the desktop, presumably because my Nvidia drivers were not longer working. I couldn't get any networking working in safe mode and eventually gave up on that route and returned to kernel 4. I was also not keen on moving to Ubuntu...

    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Wifi dies unexpectedly

I tested the wifi again this morning and it still wasn't working. I took the back off the laptop to check the wifi card connections, which appeared fine. I gave them a good push down anyway and sure enough on reboot the wifi was working. So I'm pretty sure the underlying problem here is the...

    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Wifi dies unexpectedly

I bought a laptop (spec below) that contained an Intel AX200 wifi card. I installed Ubuntu 18.04. Intel do not publish drivers for this device on linux kernel 4. I eventually managed to find an Intel backport driver for linux kernel 4 and got the wifi working. There are 6 people in our office...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Cosmos VIII 15.6" compatibility

I also had problems with this wi-fi card (and lack of drivers in kernel 4). However, in the end I found a simple back-port driver that worked https://unix.stackexchange.com/a/547278/377674 sudo add-apt-repository ppa:canonical-hwe-team/pc-oem-dkms sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Laptop keyboard backlight colour and brightness

Does anyone know: 1) How I translate PCSpecialist chassis speak into Clevo models? 2) If Clevo provide Linux (Ubuntu) drivers? I took a look and the answer seems to be 'no'. Or if anyone knows of a compatible driver? Two outcomes I am looking for: - Be able to use the hotkeys to turn on/off...

    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Cosmos i7-9750H GTX 1050 Wi-Fi 6 AX200

The Cosmos case feels low end. Its rather plasticy and its noticeable how the screen hinge sits above the base, where as most modern laptops have the screen hinged lower down (so there is no gap between base and screen). The keys have an unusual font and for some reason the key labels are...

    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Ubuntu install fails

I got this working eventually. All I did was install Ubuntu 16.04 (on which I couldn't access the UI), and then upgrade to 18.04 using the command line. I didn't have to install any extra Nvidia drivers etc, it just worked.

    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Ubuntu install fails

I tried installing Ubuntu 16.x too. In this case I got the OS installed at least, but the laptop started in 'low graphics mode'. I could get to the login prompt but always got stuck in a login loop. I tried: - Adding the Nvidia repo - Purging and reinstalling the Nvidia drivers to various...

    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Ubuntu install fails

I have a new laptop (spec below) that I am unable to install Ubuntu on. I have downloaded Ubuntu desktop 18.04.3 iso and checked the sha. I have burnt the image to two separate USBs and the problem happens on both. If I choose to install Ubuntu, I get the menu system, and 10 seconds later all...
