Raising PC off the ground

My current PC sits on the carpet under my desk without issue, however from what I can see my new machine has a case and PSU with vents underneath so sitting it on the carpet is probably not a bright idea.

Is there something better than a piece of wood which you can sit a PC on, some kind of tray or something?

Maybe something like this: http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/7039/img1771lq.jpg (although I think that's part of the desk)

(stolen from here: http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?13764-My-new-PC-review-w-pics)

Does anyone know of anything? Otherwise it's a bit of wood under the desk as I'd planned :)

It would be a good idea so your PSU and fans aren't sucking crap up from the carpet.. puts a lot more dust into your pc :p

I have mine sat on a piece of cardboard shaped like the bottom of the case so it's not visible :) Works like a charm, and it's cheap :)

Ooooh, that looks quite handy actually, I've been meaning to get something to raise my PC off the floor for the past 18 months or so :)

There is a removable dust filter for the PSU intake so as long as you clean it when it gets saturated it's not going to be a major issue but the ones Vanthus linked look good.

Just for reference, I went and ordered one of these as well, ordered on the friday afternoon, arrived on monday morning (in an Amazon box that was mostly filled with packing).

My PC is now quite happily sitting about 3" off the carpet, it seems sturdy enough, holds the PC stably, and was dead easy to slide under the PC.

Got a picture we can have? :)

Ok, one dodgy phone picture, the lighting looks funny cos without a flash everything looked a bit fuzzy and you couldn't see where the stand ended and the PC started (what with them both being black), and with the flash on, the light kinda reflected straight off the case.

So yeah, that's the stand :)

off topic, but what dust filters are those?

I got them from QuietPC, they're magnetic so happily just sit on the outside of the case :) and dead easy to remove and clean.
The filters are made by a company called DemciFlex.

They do tend to move very easily if you accidentally knock them, or brush up against them, so do need realigning to the vents at times, but I've not really found this to be a big issue.

i got one of these rakk, a 200mm version, but it doesn't fit on my front fan :( because the 200mm front fan is behind the pull out grill, the space behind is just a little too small :( Dont know where to put it now

D'oh!!

I haven't got one on my front fan either, but that's mainly cos its a complete pain in the neck to get the front of my PC off, and I'd just never get round to taking the filter out and cleaning it.
