What are homeplugs and how do they work?

I am a bit confused as to what home plugs are.
if you could shed some light it would be much appreciated.

Homeplugs basically send internet down your mains. They take an ethernet from the router into the back of one of them then you plug it into a wall socket. You then plug another homeplug into another wall socket and take an ethernet cable from the back of that into your pc. Setting them up is as easy as that, I think you press a button on both plugs at the same time though so that you can 'sync' them so no one else can use your internet. The homeplugs will only work with mains coming from one fusebox.

just normal electrical plugs? (not trying to sound thick) ;)
Yes they plug into normal wall sockets in your home,
In some cases homeplugs will even work from different consumer units (fuse boxes)
so long as they are on the the same phase,
but this hardly applies to the normal user.
Here is some useful information regarding homeplugs, dispelling some myths commonly believed,like they wont work unless on the same circuit or from extensions.
