No picture on monitor, and PC switches off after several minutes

I've just unboxed my new PC ( http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/spec/Vortex XT-270FB/80/ ), removed the foam insert and connected the side fan's cable. it seemed to power up okay, and made a single beep but then my monitor stayed black and after a few minutes the PC switched itself off. I am not sure if this is anything to do with a mistake in connecting the fan cable (I attached it to a free opposite cable which was in an empty corner at the lower right of the case)

I'm a bit worried that something may have been dislodged in transit, as the foam didn't seem to have molded itself around the motherboard and fell out as soon as I opened the side panel. Nothing seems to be out of place at first glance, though.

The fans stay on, and got louder (which got me hoping it might just be a problem with connecting the side fan, and overheating perhaps?)

Doubt it's overheating, since it's just turned on. Are you connecting to the GPU rather than the mobo?

With the fan, I connected to an opposite socket which clearly stuck out of of a bundle of cables below the DVD drive at the bottom right of the case. It's tricky to see what they attatch to, but they seem to lead to the power supply and the bottom of the motherboard

edit...

Well I guess you meant the monitor :) I tried attatching it to the GPU and got that working. Thanks for the advice :)
The sudden shutdowns are still happening though. I got as far as setting a password when the fan noise became extremely noisy and then the PC switched off. The fans seem to be visibly all working too

I am not an expert, so please ring customer support before doing anything I may suggest!

But I did have a similar problem with my old PC, and it was that the main CPU fan was not connect properly, now the power cable was fine, it seemed to be fitted perfectly, but one of the screws was loose, which meant it was not fitted properly, whether there is some kind of connection that if fan is not working properly or connected (so as to get make cooling) it will auto-shutdown the computer to protect the CPU..

Thats all I can think of, and as I say, no expert, just so happened to have a similar problem on an old PC after removing and cleaning the CPU fan
