Hi all,

Sorry if this has been asked before but im going slightly mad!!!!

Been enjoying my Optimus laptop for nearly a year now editing films etc... Slight gripes NO backlit keyboard and rubbish speakers

BIG gripe: I cannot view ingest or edit my many boxes of HDV tapes as my 'top notch' laptop has no Firewire port ... I've researched and there doesn't seem to be any gadget to overcome this and anything on amazon is meant to be a load of rubbish.

Is there any other option PLEASE ... Can Pcspecialist fit firewire ports to their laptops if so how much???

I am working on a showreel and need to access my tapes

Thanks for any help

I wouldn't have thought firewire could be added to a motherboard if it is not built into it (or the 'space' is already). I could be wrong though! If there is a PCI-e slot on the laptop somewhere (or some other laptoppy way to connect a firewire card to it...)

You don't seem to be able to pick firewire on the optimus configurator... :(

Additionally after a brief session with Google I don't think there is a way to 'convert' firewire to USB either http://superuser.com/questions/306437/converting-firewire-to-usb-3-is-it-theoretically-possible

I don't think it's possible unless the laptop has an Express Card slot or PCMCIA card slot.

It's a most definite no-no. Vanthus is correct, unfortunately the Optimus IV doesn't have either.

Don't you have another computer lying around that could do the trick?
