Audio Problems (Help please!)

Hey everyone!

I received my PC a few days ago (thanks pcspecialist) :p

Yesterday I accidentally clicked something within Realtek Audio Manager and now I have no sound whatsoever.

I understand that my Nvidia graphic card has a sound card driver which may conflict with my ASUS motherboard soundcard...is this right?

Does anyone know how this can be rectified?

I have plugged my 3.5mm into my monitor which is connected via HDMI to my NVIDIA Graphics card.

Can anyone help me as I have no idea what to do?

Thanks in advance :)

So the sound was working until you clicked something in the Realtek Audio Manager?

Assuming your Realtek Audio Manager looks like mine the first thing I'd check is that the mute button is not pressed. Open up the Audio Manager, click the tab at the top for your speakers and check that the small square button with a blue speaker symbol in it (to the right of the volume slider bar) does not have a red cross in it. If it does click the button once (the red cross should now be replaced by three curved lines). In that case you're done.

If that's not it, then click the Sound Effects tab just underneath the volume slider bar and then click the Rest button you will see there. This disables any and all sound effects you may have applied. Then click the Default Format tab and click the button with an eraser symbol in it, this resets your default sound format.

If none of that works then it wasn't something you clicked in the Audio Manager, it must be something else.

Can you not connect the speakers directly to the motherboard onboard audio at the back?

Could you clarify your audio setup, i.e whether you're using internal speakers on the monitor etc.

I'm assuming carrying the sound by way of HDMI is your preferred/only option as opposed to the analog connectors on the motherboard?

Edit: Sorry, didn't see the bottom of your second post. I would recommend you try the steps laid out by Vanthus below. :)

If your trying to use the monitor speakers check in sound panel that HDMI is set to default.
Right click on the sound icon on right of task bar/select playback devices,
or go to control panel/sound/select "playback tab"/
right click "HDMI out device"/ set as default device/apply.
The "HDMI out device" could be termed differently,if so try each device until you get sound through the monitor speakers.

Thankyou all for the quick replies!

@Keynes
It doesn't work when I connect to the onboard audio.

@TomDWC
Thanks for your suggestion anyway :)

@Vanthus
I dont want the monitor speakers to work. However no matter where I try and connect my speakers, they wont work when Realtek Audio Manager is the default sound driver. But WORKS when It is through NVIDIA by default.

If the speakers are plugged into the monitor then you need to set the monitor as your default device in the sound playback menu.
