Linux Support of Fustion T

Hey guys,

Just thought I'd share my experience of Linux support on the 14" Fusion T as overall has been rather pleasant.

Distro of choice - Ubuntu 13.10, but I'm sure that it works on other distros too.

Installation:
Went off without a hitch. Installed via USB and it went very quickly indeed, and I was up and running less than 30 minutes after coming home and finding the delivery.

What worked out the box:
  • Wireless (A blessing during installation)
  • Graphics (Full HD)
  • Touchscreen
  • Bluetooth
  • Mouse pad gestures (two finger scrolling etc.)
  • HDMI out (visual only)
  • Webcam

What didn't work:
  • Sound - sound did work out both the speakers and headphones, but putting in the headphones did not mute the speakers
  • HDMI Sound - connecting to a HDMI television/monitor produces no sound, and the option to select the HDMI as the sound output does not exist in the Sound Settings

Fixes I've found:
Running
Code:
sudo apt-get install gnome-alsamixer
and then running the software, then ticking the "Auto mute mode" box allows the headphones to mute the speakers when they're in. This persists from boot to boot but might be reset when Ubuntu updates, but I don't have a fix for the HDMI issue as of yet.

Overall:
Well worth it; the HD screen is amazing and makes this a very nice little development machine. Beautiful to type on too.

Hope this helps for anyone looking for a PCSPECIALIST laptop with Linux support.

I just wanted to say thank you for this post.

It helped me to decide to buy a Fusion-T as I'm planning to run Linux (Arch) on it as the primary OS.
I'll post back here on my experience once I receive the laptop. :)

I'm just posting to confirm that the Fusion-T works well out of the box with Arch Linux as well - I'll post something more detailed when I get the time, but in case anyone else is thinking of running Linux on this I would recommend it. :)

That's a good post right there.

Knowing what works out the box and what doesn't is great, adding fixes is even better. Cheers.

You said wireless was working out the box - which wireless option did you choose? (thinking of buying and would like the same to happen for me!)

I chose the following Wireless option (worked out of the box with Arch Linux):
GIGABIT LAN & WIRELESS INTEL® AC-7260 (867Mbps, 802.11AC) + BLUETOOTH

Also might want to check out my Fusion-T review. :)
