Gtx 980m

So today I cancelled my upcoming 880m equipped laptop on its14th working day, very close to being built and shipped (I assume)
Did I suffer from temporary insanity??? - I hear your call. It wasn't an easy choice I'll admit.
Nope, I was informed by the very helpful PCS customer service rep that the Gtx 980m is but a month or two away from being offered on this fine site. And it makes the 880m look damn weak -

I personally am extremely excited about this upcoming card, and cannot wait for PCS to begin stocking it. The sales guy (who's name I wish I could remember as he was very helpful) couldn't give me an exact release date or prices, but confirmed it would be relatively soon and rather good bang for your buck.
Hopefully as soon as it's available I'll be grabbing a decent chassis with 2x 980m in SLI (I almost want to say... Futureproof?) With the 880ms well documented driver issues and minimal improvement over the 780m im damn glad that there is a waiting list for laptops at the moment, or I could be typing this on a laptop I'd have regretted splashing the cash on.

Felt I had to register and post to share the good news...

If anyone has any more concrete info please post, I'd love to know more.

Cheers, Tom

TBH that sounds like outstanding service from PCS. I can't imagine many, if any, other sites that would be so helpful.

I don't suppose they mentioned anything about 950m & 960m's? :)

Adidan, no word on the 950m/960m I'm afraid, but that's not to say that they won't know, I simply didn't ask. It's possible they have more info on the lower level cards though I imagine all 9**m cards information will come at once after the general release?
I agree that it is very good customer service. The sales rep could have quite easily tried to convince me to continue with the order and PCS would still have my £1500. Instead he gave me my best option, even though it may be to their detriment.
Good show PCS sales guy, good show.

Cheers Tom.

I imagine it'll be a while before there's any news on the mid and lower 9xxm range. Good to hear your experience though, reassuring before putting my first order in.

Hopefully the former, I have to pick up a laptop soon and don't usually concern myself with waiting for the next upcoming tech but what with it being so close it would be daft not to just wait on a little longer.

Hi, Thanks for the info, guess I will wait for new ASUS G with GTX980m.
Wondering if it will have a new CPU as well...

im in exactly the same situation, i can more or less wait to last days of october middle of november, so i REALLY hope my wait is not pointless

I am also waiting for the 980m series after I heard about it's near future release the other week. I also came across the below benchmarks which aren't official but if it's anything to go by, the increase in performance is impressive. Also with 2048 CUDA cores in a mobile card. I think Nvidia are making a big push for top spot again.

any comment from the PCS guys on when it will be available and what models? As I understand it the motherboards are pre made and you need to order them from Clevo - so what combo are you guys going for?

Interested in this too as a certain big selling website has a certain manufacturer model listed with a 980m with availability from tomorrow (7th Oct). Any news would be good right now, I'm really pushing my purchase back as far as I can waiting for the imminent 9xxm release.

Edit: No surprise, that 980m laptop date has now been pushed back a week and a 970m that is now listed is classed as 'temporarily out of stock'. Not a surprise at all.

Its out on amazon listed as sold out, already doh! waiting for PC specialist to sell it though. I think they are waiting for it to be announced in the US before they make it available to us in the UK.

Have the benchmarks been confirmed?
The ones that were leaked seemed a bit over the top..

I've also changed my mind on purchasing a 880m (which is already more than decent) for a 9**m.
I'm greedy:>

Will PCS have it soon?

It's still not been anounced so no-one knows when, but PCS are pretty fast at getting stocks so I would have thought they'll have it pretty soon after release.

The rumours say it'll be announced in a week or so around 14th October, but these are just rumours.
