13.3" Lafité

I would guess it would be a bit more expensive, having a bigger screen and chassis

They also said on the other thread that they were considering equipping it with a 840/850M, so it will probably be more performant as well based on the customization options.

Q: to kro55bow
Which Intel Bluetooth/WiFi option did you go for and is it working okay with your Linux distro?
I'm just a bit concerned that the aluminium chassis might impede the aerials and signal strength. (Ta!)

I went with the basic one, from the specs i couldnt see much benefit of the optional one for me. I have a pretty small flat but the wifi even on 5Ghz gets decent signal.

In terms of setting it up, there was none, it just worked.

Can anyone update on the build quality?
Does the laptop feel sturdy and does everything align properly.
Also has anyone opened the maintenance cover?
Is it easy to upgrade ram and hdd?

Hi PCS

Would the basic 15.6" model be more or less expensive than the 13.3" model? I'm seriously considering the Lafité and don't know whether it would be better to wait a couple of months for a larger-screened version? Have you made a decision to go ahead with producing it?

No decisions have been made - it will likely be much later this year, perhaps October/November if we were to stock it...

Thats exactly what i was considering getting Is it possible to a more detailed review

I can talk about what I have so far.

I have the i5 edition with the 250Gb Samsung 850EVO SSD and 8Gb RAM.

Build wise, its at the mid to high end, the case isn't as nice as say a Macbook Air, but the full aluminium is nice and solid. There are some rough edges where the aluminium panels join but that is to be expected. The hinge feels solid and there is no flex or creak in the screen when opening it. There is also no keyboard flex when typing, though as the chassis is so thin it does flex a little in the middle.

The HDMI connector is fairly close to the right side USB port. My Sandisk Cruzer won't fit if my (pretty chunky) HDMI cable is plugged in. I haven't tried the SD slot

It is light and thin as you all know. The fans are quiet but i have only heard them spin up when installing packages. My issues with the touchpad are the only real negative. The keyboard is nice to use and comfortable.

The screen is really nice, good brightness and clarity.

Use wise it feels snappy and quick to react, but as I have only had it for a day and I am running Linux there isn't anything I can say on the Windows side.

Battery life, well I haven't run it down and have exactly zero inclination of doing any sort of scientific test, but first impressions seem good. it drained about 10% in a couple of hours last night but that is by no means a representation of its performance over a longer time.

All in all I'm happy, though the touchpad is disappointing. I suspect windows people will have the full multi-touch experience.

Is it possible for you to do more in reviewing please :D

Out of interest - if we were to offer a 15.6" Lafite with 840M/850M - same colour and design in May/June time - would anybody consider this? Would it be preferred over the 15.6" Cosmos? What about in grey/black colour?

Personally I prefer sticking with the 13.3" screen form-factor..... A slim 15.6" size Lafite chassis might flex too much and risk being a vulnerable anorexic laptop.
I've been looking-out for a good 13 inch FHD matt IPS screen ultrabook for many months now and finally have just ordered a Lafite from you today. The silver aluminium chassis finish might not have been my preferred colour. Had there been a choice then a gunmetal grey or deep black would have appealed more. My only concern being the increased visibility of any scratches to a dark finish that penetrated into the metalwork underneath.

lafite has a backlit keyboard?

thank you very much!

The "official" weight is max 1.6Kg, however I have just weighed one today (and previously) and it weighs 1.42kg. I guess it may weigh more if you put a standard hard drive in there as opposed to an SSD.

There is no backlit keyboard option available for these at present but we are working on this for future models (November/December 2015).

Hi am looking to buy this model for my daughter.

Any more reviews about this laptop?

She will be using it mainly to watch 1080p films and videos.

Also YouTube internet browsing etc.

Maybe minecraft & if graphics can handle possibly SIM city.

Now am going to go with 8gb of ram or will 4gb or ram will be ok to run the stuff I put above?

Also going to go with normal 1tb hard drive as she got loads of videos to put on & need loads of memory space.

I noticed it only has 1tb available but ultranote you can have 2tb hard drive could I get 2tb hard drive in this one?

Am thinking basic cpu will be enough for 1080p videos. Or should I get I3 or I5 cpu just incase?

Many thanks.

Definitely go with at least i3 as you will need HD5500 graphics to run games.
Sim city should run ok on low settings @720p.
I think the reason why you can't fit a 2tb drive is because the drive is 9mm and Lafite only takes 7mm drives.
4gb should be ok for most stuff but if you can afford 8gb then definitely go for it.

I'm getting mine delivered today so going to post a review on the weekend.

People wanting to know about the graphics issue I had. Some applications weren't showing at the FHD resolution, I contacted support and they provided various drivers (the ones on their website didn't work and appeared to be for a different model since they contained Nvidia files). They determined it was a hardware fault and so it was sent back. Two weeks later it turns out it was a software issue, windows has a feature where it scales the resolution on small screens, support didn't know about this until they got it back and since I rarely use windows I'd never heard of it.

My experience with support was a complete shambles I ended up having to go through Google Certified Shops (who were wonderful) to get a refund.
