Is this worth the money for gaming?

I'm a bit new to building my own PC. I was browsing for pc spec guides for a budget of around $2k. This looked pretty decent:

I'm planning on using it just for gaming, but the description says that it is for "everything" so is there anything I can take away from it and still have the same performance?

Also, is the dual 970s necessary or can I just get a GTX 980?
