I think I would still prefer an SDD to run my OS, since I understand that will make things run a lot faster? I also need a wifi connection, what would you recommend?

Is Windows 8.1 an improvement over windows 7 in any way? What little experience I have with 8.1 has been a big disappointment, and much less user-friendly from a PC user point of view.

Getting an SSD with a fixed budget means compromising in other components. If it is mainly gaming the SSD is not going to improve gaming performance just shorted loading time for applocatoons. Windows 8.1 vs 7 is personal preference, you can check differences online but I believe is mainly faster loading times and a non noticeable increase in fps in some games.

No SSD = affording a 970.

SSD = can't afford a 970.

If you want this to be a gaming PC then turn in the SSD (and just buy one when you save up another £100 and install it yourself)
