Windows 8.1 <sigh>

I think I broke my PC already.
Tried to update the WiFi adapter driver and now it won't get bast the 'PCSpecialist' boot screen.

I'll try a recovery, but do I have downgrade rights for Windows 7?

Googling around it seems there's a known issue with the Broadcom 802.11ac drivers in windows 8... 144mbs on 2.4Ghz is not going to cut it when I should have 1500mbs on 5Ghz

Not a happy bunny this morning.

I think you bought your PC with windows 8.1? If that's the case you won't be able to downgrade to Win 7 without purchasing a licence.

If the recovery works then I'd probably ensure you get it to a stable state (installing all the other updates/drivers etc.) make a backup and then try the wireless drivers again.

If its a known issue is there not a workaround for it (not able to search myself just now unfortunately).

You could try a wired connection for now (temporary) until a fix is released or potentially use homeplugs and get away from wireless altogether? I appreciate that doesn't really solve the immediate issue.

Well my work around is to use the 2.4ghz network. But that's not ideal. My wiring in the house is not good enough for the home plugs to give reliable performance.

According to Microsoft oem Windows does have downgrade rights.

According to this page ...

If you are a customer of a direct OEM, please contact your OEM for more information about downgrade rights.

So you need to talk to PCS.

Well, it's moot now.. did a refresh and it's all working now.

Even the 5Ghz WiFi after I installed all the Asus drivers. Luckily I don't install apps on the boot disk so I didn't have to reinstall much.

Does it matter which order the antenna wires attach? I don't think so since there's no discernible difference between them. I guess the mac has a better wifi card because the signal strength is way down. Might have to get one of those wifi extenders.
