It's probably at the top end of my budget and the GPU was a toss up between this and the Radeon R9 290X. The GTX being a bit cheaper and being bundled with a couple of games swung it for me.

Essentially, would this be enough to run The Witcher and GTA V at 1080p and make them look prettier than they do on the Xbox One.

Of course it would. You could run GTA max settings (with MSAA off) smoothly easily. I'd recommend a WD Caviar Black for the HDD. Maybe also an SSD if you could extend your budget a bit - GTA has painful loading times.

Thanks for your input - the lack of an SSD doesn't bother me too much as I rarely sit down and want to game straight away - I've usually got to get a cup of tea or sort something out for the kids first so I can start something loading and then come back when it is ready

I would suggest silver warranty for £5, i5-4690 (non-k), and triple copper heatpipe CPU cooler.
