VGA Monitor not working

Today I received my PC (i configured it here) I bought off a pc specialist (after 1 month of waiting btw...) I am using Dual screens and they are both VGA. One is gone into my VGA port and the other into my graphics cards DVI port (i used converter to turn the VGA into DVI).

The DVI that is feeded into my graphics card works but the VGA cabled monitor is not working. I open screen resolution and click "Detect" to try and find the second monitor but have no luck. The monitors are 100% working and functional.

I am using:

Windows 8
Geforce GTX 960
Asus motherboard

I have tried:

Installing and updating graphics card driver
Updated Syncmaster driver

It is a fresh system so they may well be something I need to install to get it working?

You can only use the ports on your graphics card, not the ones on the mobo as they use the discrete graphics which are disabled if a dedicated graphics card is installed. You'll need an adapter to run from the graphics card port.

This makes no sense to me, your saying as long as i have a graphics card, i cannot use my motherboard ports? So how am i supposed to use dual screens if i only have one DVI port.

Surely there's a secondary port on the graphics card, an hdmi perhaps?

As SpyderTracks says there is more than one port on the GTX960, there should be one HDMI, one DVI and three DP ports, for which you would need convertors - it can support upto 4 monitors.

sorry i have checked and you are correct. I currently have 1x DVI-I, 1xDVI-D, 1x HDMI and 1x dp.
the DVI-I is currently taken and working fine.

For my other vga cable do you advise i buy a VGA to DVI-D convertor? as i hear DVI-D only send signals or something like that? will that cause problems in my situation?
what do you advise as i am confused alittle.

You'll need an active adapter for the DVI-D port, something like THIS

Or convert to HDMI like THIS

Any will do.

Trouble using three monitors with PC

Hello, i bought a PC from pcspecialist with a nvidia 960 graphics card.

My setup is:
- Main center DVI monitor (144hz)
- Left side VGA monitor (60hz)
- Right side VGA monitor (60hz)

I am able to run my main DVI monitor at 144hz and my right hand side VGA monitor fine (dual screen working)
The main one is plugged into my graphics card's DVI and my right hand side is plugged into the other DVI port (using convertor, since monitor is VGA).

This means i only have HDMI ports left on the graphics card therefore i tried plugging my third monitor into the VGA port of the PC (standalone port that comes with PC)
Now, when i try to detect it, it cant find the monitor. I even bought another converter to plug into my PC's DVI port for my VGA monitor.

I have cross checked things to make sure monitor or cable is not faulty.

What is going wrong? Can anyone help me?

afallingpanda I have merged your two threads together - whilst I wouldn't normally merge two threads together that are 8 months apart - it looks like you are asking exactly the same question, so the answer is exactly the same, ie. you can't use the motherboard ports as they will be disabled so you need a convertor for the third cable.

So you are saying using my graphics card ports will render my motherboards as useless and unusable?

THis means i have to buy VGA -> HDMI convertor right? Will this impact quality/performance on my DVI monitor which needs to run at 144hz?

Basically yes, if you have a graphics card installed, then generally the motherboard ports are disabled so you have to use the graphics cards ports.
SpyderTracks linked some convertors/adaptors for you in post #7.

I don't see why a convertor for your VGA cable would harm your DVI connection given its separate.
