Desktop Specification Comments Please

It's time to replace my 8 year old Dell Dimension E521 and have come up with the specification below. I use the PC for mail, internet and some Excel VBA programming along with photo editing, nothing too heavy so I don't need a high spec mode - hence the low end graphics card and 8Gb memory (which I can add to later). I expect/hope this will be a significant improvement on the existing AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+, 4 Gb RAM and spinning disk. I also plan a new monitor, either a BenQ GW2765HT or an ASUS PB278Q, for which I've seen good reviews for photographic purposes.

Any comments or advice would be gratefully received, thanks.

The only main thing that I can see is that 500GB for the HDD doesn't seem very much. I'd recommend going for at least 1TB for furture proofing. However, obviously it depends on how much you think you'll accumulate over the next few years.

The other thing is that for an extra £5 you should upgrade to silver warranty. It upgrades your one month collect and return to a year.

Thank you both for your comments, they've reassured me in my choices.

I currently have a 500 Gb hard disk in the Dell and have used less than half of that including 105 Gb of backups, but I think you're right about the 1 Tb drive, which only added £12 to the order. I'm thinking of buying an external disk of some sort for backups in future as they seem more secure in the case of a PC failure of some sort.

PC Specialists don't offer a collect and return outside of the UK, something that isn't particularly easy to find - you can find it in the Warranty help (?) below the descriptions of the various warranty options by clicking on the link to the full terms and conditions, Section 6 Cancellation & Returns where clause 6.4 states "We do not offer a collection service for Product(s) delivered outside the UK or to the Channel Islands.".

Thanks again for your help.
