Nothing jumps out as over the top. Perhaps 16GB RAM is too much unless your doing video editing or such like.

Overall unless you need a lower price or have more to spend I think its a fairly solid spec.

All looks very good to me man, I would advise getting homeplugs instead of a wireless card though. As a gamer myself, it has been a life saver

Seems expensive for a 970 gaming PC. You could get a similar powered gaming PC for much less than that as some components you've chosen aren't needed.

Alternatively if you're looking to spend about £1500-1600 then the review Vulcan 440 is only £1499 (or £1504 with silver warranty) and comes with better specs than your build (http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/reviews/, it has a 980 rather than a 970, 500Gb SSD rather than 250Gb)... just don't configure any of it or you lose the discount and it jumps to over £1600.

If I were you I'd order that review model, then order a monitor separately.

I really don't know what to do. I have little knowledge about computers. I want a system that's going to last, I want it to be fast and I need it to be capable of playing games on high spec. I know I have things that aren't needed but I havent got a monitor. If anyone could build me a system with my criteria with peripherals I would be very grateful. Budget is £2000

This is the sort of build you should be looking at for your budget. Can't get much better than a 980ti and that PSU will support a second one a couple of years down the line if you want another. This PC is FAR superior to your initial build gaming wise. The monitor is up to you really. Could get a 1440p 60Hz one. Could get a 1080p 144Hz one. If you saved up a tad more you could a 1440p 144Hz one. Or you could go 4k within a £2k budget but on one 980ti you wouldn't get 60Hz framerates all the time.

That one's got one of the most powerful graphics card you can buy plus a very capable processor, that should run all games on ultra for the next 2 years, then you may have to start turning down settings a little to high.

okay thank you, one more thing I went to order this just and this came up

You have selected a 1000W power supply, but based on our calculations you actually only need a 650W power supply. We have calculated your specification to require around 583W of power including a 20% allowance. Although it is not a mandatory requirement to select a lower wattage power supply, doing so will save you money and the last thing we'd like to do is over charge you

As you're building with SLI in mind in the future and therefor overspeccing the PSU to allow for a second graphics card in the future, it's just notifying you that that kind of power is overkill for the setup you've chosen, but that of course is not taking into account your future possible sli needs.

You can just disregard that post and continue with the purchase.

Yes, but you might need to turn some other settings down a notch depending on the sort of fps you like playing around with. You can Google 4k benchmarks for current games with a single 980ti. Bear in mind you'll have a psu capable of powering two 980tis too so you could yp the gpu power in a year or two.

I haven't gamed at higher than 1080p or higher than 60hz ever but I read that most people say that the fps counts more than the res. What about a 1440p 144hz monitor like the rog swift? One things for sure, if you go with a 980ti (which you can certainly afford) then you want a good monitor for it to power.
