Corsair PSU

Does anyone have the Corsair 650W CS modular 80+ Gold 'ultra quiet' and actually think it's 'ultra quiet'? I read some reviews of it on Amazon UK and it has reviews on it how it is extremely loud, whereas the Corsair CX 600W and Corsair RM 550W PSU's which are a similar price, yet are not on these custom build options, don't have a lot of negative reviews.
Thanks for letting me know in advance.

I have one powering this PC I'm using right now. I just stuck my ear right next to it and can't hear it. If you run it close to capacity, it will get louder, but only up to about 20dB at 100%, according to the spec on the box. The cheaper series are about 20dB at 50% capacity, IIRC. Are the RM the silent series?

Corsair PSU help!

Does anyone have the Corsair 650W CS 'ultra quiet' PSU and could tell me what they think of it? Also, is the 550W VS Series PSU any good without being too loud. I'm not entirly sure why the custom pc build options don't include the CX series or lower wattage RM series as the lowest is 850 watts which is overkill for a lot of builds.
Thanks in advance

I answered your other thread as well. According to the box I looked at once, the VS series are about twice as loud (in dB) as the CS series, IIRC.

On the 'configure your PC'/custom build PC, the corsair 650W CS modular is labelled as 'ultra quiet'. The RM series is more quiet, more efficient and a higher tier PSU.
So you have the Corsair 650W CS series and find it very quiet?

Thanks for your feedback

Exactly, can't hear it with my ear touching the fan grill. The box claims it's under 10dB at 50% load. At full load it will go up to 20dB, which is still pretty quiet, but you want some headroom ideally for efficiency and longevity. It might be a little louder with multiple graphics cards, I guess.

Does anyone else have the Corsair 650W CS Series PSU and find it quiet? Thanks for any feedback

This reply is a bit late, but here's my thoughts. The CS650 is a good PSU although it can get a little noisy, also some customers have reported to hear the PSU rattling, which I did experience before my rig was RMA'd (for another reason). I would recommend it over the VS series although don't expect whisper quiet performance.

Cheers :)

I asked Sean at PCSpecialist this very question.

Noise is pretty important to me. I've just read some horror stories about that psu online, but it's described as ultra quiet here which is why I picked it. This machine is going in the living room so my wife will kill me if it's just as noisy as my previous machines. In fact everything I've chosen on this build is to minimise any fan noise and pick the quietest ones.

What is your experience of this one, or advice? What checks do you do on the build for noise levels? For me this is a lot of money, and I was really trying to get the perfect quiet set up. Yours hopefully...!

Dear Steve

I have not seen any issues with that power supply and own the 750w version, and I am very bothered about noise as I do not have any fans in my machine!

If we can assist you any further, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Many Thanks

Sean Woolley
