Hi

Just registered and thought I'd say hello from the North East of England, I'm thinking of replacing my existing 3 year old Samsung laptop with a 1080p display (eyes not what they used to be). I have some PC knowledge but I'm a little out of the game now. Hope to read some good advice on these forums.

Cheers

Welcome along. Once you decide to buy if you want any help we will comment on a spec or if you let us know your budget and the intended uses someone will gladly put a spec together.

Thanks Stephen M, I don't need a gaming laptop as I only use it for normal everyday use i.e. web browsing, email's and using Microsoft office. I'm looking at a 15-16" screen and a hard drive upto 300gb is more than ample for my needs. I would like a well built possibly with metal construction but as my budget is around £400-500ish I think i will be pushing it to get this Spec

Cheers

This would be one option, for £492. I went for the WD HDD as they are fast, 7200rpm, and reliable but if you want an SDD, which will give very quick boot up and loading speeds a 240GB Kingston Hyper X or a Samsung 250GB would take you to £521. They are both great drives, I use Hyper X but it is only a matter of personal preference. Do you already have Microsoft Office, if not you could save money and use this: https://www.libreoffice.org/ I have used Libre for a few years now and think it is just as good as Microsoft and it is free.

The BSOD Doctor
Hello and welcome. To be honest rugged laptops are not what PCS are about. I don't game so the NVIDIA GPU in my laptop doesn't ever break sweat, but I wanted a custom built laptop with my CPU spec and my RAM spec and an SSD and an HDD. It's hard to get what you want off the shelf or from the high street, so PCS was a natural choice. My Optimus IV is not rugged, though it's as solid as any other average laptop. I've been delighted with the build quality and the after sales support from PCS (I had a minor wifi card issue which they sorted for me).

If a rugged case is important to you I'd look elsewhere, but if a good solid build with your choice of major components at a fair price is what you're after then PCS is the company.

Thanks for the reply guys and the great advice. The spec seems great to me and i already have Office 2013 so this will save me a few quid. I'm sure i will be happy with the quality of the build provided by pcs.

Many Thanks

Paul
