Difference between Intel AC 3160, and AC 8260

I am planning to but a Lafité II, most likely an I5 6200U, 8Gbs RAM, and a 256GB SM951, and install some Linux distribution on it.

Are there any important differences between the AC 3160 and the 8260? Is the 8260 noticeably faster, or does it have a greater range? etc.

I have no experience of the 3160, but I can get the maximum speed of my 150mbps Virgin service upstairs on my Lafite with 8260. I was very impressed with the range and speed considering I'm still using Virgin's terrible Superhub 2.
