Windows 10 upgrade contradiction

I purchased my computer from PCSpecialist less than 3 years ago. I've got Windows 7 on it and I'm trying to go through the Windows 10 free upgrade process. The first screen says I'm unable to upgrade due to compatibility issues so when I click the View Report option to see the issues, the report says there are now issues and that I'm good to go and that my PC will work with Windows 10. I used to get an option to upgrade to Windows 10 but I wasn't ready to upgrade then but now it is saying there is an issue. Please help as I'd like to get this resolved before I upgrade.

Can anyone help please?

I'm not sure if it will work without upgrading first but you could try a clean install of Windows 10 and then use your code. Of course if this goes wrong then you have no OS at all. Alternatively, reinstall Windows 7 in the hope that it fixes whatever issues its currently having with the upgrade app and then try again. Make sure to back up all your files though. Plus its usually best to do a clean install of Windows 10 after upgrading anyway, MS have done a good job with the upgrade tool but its not perfect.

You have 30 days to revert from within Windows 10 if you decide you don't want to upgrade. It's a straightforward process.

What I meant is that I'm not sure you can enter a non-upgraded Windows 7 code straight into Windows 10 without going through the upgrade process first (which is currently blocked for OP).

It is important that you first create a disc image back up of the existing W7 saved to an external drive. You must also have made a repair disc capable of restoring the disc image if required. Also back up all data files.

At the first release of W10 last August it was a requirement to upgrade W7 but from the W7 TH2 November version this changed to allow the use of the W7 key during a clean install of W10.
If an upgrade is done within W7 (normal method) or a clean install but over W7 then a Windows.old folder is created with which it is possible to roll back to W7 if required. It is this folder that may be deleted after 30 days. If everything fails you need a plan B hence the disc image backup which can be reinstalled after the 30 days.

If your hardware is compatible, the problem could be software related. In particular, uninstall (not disable) any 3rd party antivirus. You may need to download their tool to fully do this. Unplug anything attached to the computer. Try an update and if that fails a clean install.

Thank you all for your help. For whatever reason the screens above were still not allowing me to upgrade even after a reboot etc. However, going through to the website link and downloading the Windows 10 upgrade program worked fine and reported my PC was 100% compatible so I think it was a bug in the dialog or compatibility report. I'm now fully Windows 10 upgraded. Just need to create a recovery USB drive now so I can do a clean install at some point.
