What do you think about this 32" Devcom Gamer setup?

Hi,

I'm looking forward to ordering a new computer. I'm trying to decide between a Clevo-based model (P775DM3 / PCSpecialist Obsidian III) and a Devcon 32" Gamer. I want the computer to be somehow compact, that's why I'm considering a notebook or an AIO PC. I'm a casual gamer, but also a software developer, and 3d hobbyist.

What I'm mostly worried about this 32" Devcon is the lack of reviews about it. I couldn't find reviews mentioning stuff about display quality, heat dissipation, noise, etc, out there. What do you guys can tell me? Can I connect to someone that owns such similar setup?

Also, the 32" screen size might be a bit too big for my office, I'm not sure. I wonder if, in normal use (display slightly tilted to the back), this AIO PC might need a good part of the depth of my table (which has 76cm depth).

Here is the core setup. I'll be reusing SSDs and HDDs I already own. I'll also be installing my pre-owned full Windows 10 Home 64, and some Linux.

  • Chassis & Display: Devcon Series: 32" Non-Touch 2K QHD Screen (2560x 1440)
  • Processor (CPU): Intel® Core™i5 Quad Core Processor i5-6600K (3.5GHz) 6MB Cache
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 3 ATX, LG1151, USB 3.1, SATA 6GBs
  • Memory (RAM): 32GB HyperX FURY DDR4 2133MHz (4 x 8GB)
  • Graphics Card: 8GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1080 - DVI, HDMI, 3x DP - GeForce GTX VR Ready!
  • Power Supply: CORSAIR 650W CS SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET (94 €)
  • Processor Cooling: Noctua NH-L9i Low Profile, Super Quiet CPU Cooler (35 €)
  • Operating System: NO OPERATING SYSTEM REQUIRED
  • Keyboard & Mouse: LOGITECH® MK520 WIRELESS KEYBOARD & MOUSE COMBO (53 €)
  • Gaming Mouse Pad: CM Storm Swift RX Gaming Mouse Pad - Small (12 €)

Have you considered a mini ITX build? https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/computers/intel-skylake-sff-gaming/
Would give you more options in terms of sourcing your own screen as well, if you feel the AIO might be too beefy, while having greater options for upgrades than a laptop.
The configurator only offers up to 16gb but the motherboard supports upto 32gb... perhaps PCS can clarify or offer it as an option if you call them.

If you're a 3d hobbyist in the sense of 3d modelling/rendering an i7 might be worth looking at, depending on whether your software takes advantage of hyperthreading.

Thanks. I decided to move forward with that specs, mostly because I want something more consolidated, less cables, and upgradeability. The price was also good.

Cool. I did notice the mini ITX option seeming to be more expensive once the cost of a monitor was factored. Not many people ask about AIO builds on the forums so if you have the time it would be interesting if you could post your comments about it once you've got the machine and tried it out. Might help others in a similar position make the choice. :) Only if you have time ofc.

In reference to your question there https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?49602-Devcon-All-in-One-Review all I could say is that the spec sheet says it has an LED backlight: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/matrix/368/84/8/0/

If you've not seen it, this review seemed quite happy with colour reproduction and viewing angles, so if it is a TN panel it isn't a bad one apparently: http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/systems/pc_specialist_devcon_32_aio_pc_review/12 Although that was the 1080p panel and it might be possible that PCS are using a different panel model now. Hopefully someone dcan give you a more informed reply, but I thought I'd put that there in case it was of interest.
