My game breaker rig

Ok guys and girls , let me start by saying i am not using this forum to brag about what i got , i can remember a time when i did not know where my next meal was coming from. I am a 61 year old male and been a gamer since 1982.The rig and monitor were bought from pc specialists all other items were from amazon , the total cost came out at around £2,900.

The tower COOLERMASTER HAF-X FULL TOWER GAMING CASE , the tower is massive, one of its best features is that it has a special reset button that forces a restart if your pc locks up and the only option left would be to unplug at the wall. I had to test this after a windows 10 aniversarry update and trust me it works , it has a sliding cover on it so you cant press it by mistake .The guys who build the rig also bag up the tower bits they dont use they dont just throw them away .

The cpu is Intel® Core™i7 Six Core Processor i7-6800K (3.4GHz) 15MB Cache. The motherboard is ASUS® ROG STRIX X99: ATX, USB 3.1, SATA 6 GB/s. This one of the latest generation of motherboards and when the pc is off a strip of lights pulse , this is because it is taking a small amount of power from the mains , this in turn feeds usb devices so you can use the usb ports as charges even with pc off.

The ram is 16GB HyperX FURY DDR4 2133MHz (4 x 4GB).... trust me you dont need 32GB.
The graphics card is 8GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1080 - DVI, HDMI, 3x DP - GTX VR Ready! ..... I was just about to place order with a titan and pc gamer dropped though the letter box and i saw a photo of the 1080 ..... thanks guys !

The main drive is 480GB HyperX SAVAGE 2.5" SSD, SATA 6 Gb/s (upto 560MB/sR | 530MB/sW) for windows and all the items you cant chose where they install . goes to desktop so fast i cant read the f key boot menu.
The second drive is 960GB HyperX SAVAGE 2.5" SSD, SATA 6 Gb/s (upto 560MB/sR | 530MB/sW) for my steam client games and all other games.

The dvd/blue ray is 24x DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM. The power supply is CORSAIR 650W CS SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET .... The build checker says 650w is 20% more than i should need.

The cpu cooler is Noctua NH-D15S Ultra Quiet Performance CPU Cooler , this is huge ! , if you put this into this tower you will be told you cant have an extra roof or rear fan.

The monitor is BENQ XL2430T 24" Gaming Monitor 144hz , have not used the software or the plug in device for the menus i use the buttons on the monitor, the desktop has a soft tone colour to it and is not glossy like some monitors but when you run your games they look like they did on your previous pc. The only tweak i did was turn down the brightness to 70% because emails and word lettering looked blurred at 100% brightness. You can alter game colouring separately if you wanted to but i did not need to.

All other components dont need listing as they are stock items.... The keyboard is a corsair straffe chosen as i have locking finger problems , a soft touch keyboard is no good to me. Its brilliant for typing and gaming , dont bother with downloading the software and dont use the second usb pass through cable as they both do strange things to the lighting layout. I never use programmable macro keys on a game anyway because some companies actually say if they think your using them they will block you as you have an unfair advantage ????? I use a mouse from my old packard bell ipower rig it suits me as you can put weights in it , helps me with my hand problem ! So that my wife can watch tv in peace i got a set of xiberia t18 gaming headphones..... to get the best sound quality , download the software and choose the 7.1 setting. You will also need to turn all the sliders down to -30db or the sound will be unbearable at level 2. Set at -30 level 12 is comfortable so you can go up or down a bit if need be.

To say i am pleased with what i got would be an understatement , my gaming buddies dont believe me when i say ALL the fans are quiet , one guy was only convinced the pc was on because he could feel a cold draught blowing from the front fans lol .

FINALLY a big thanks to the builders who did an excellent job AND for only installing the op system , unlike shop bought pc's i dont have any trial or bloat software.

The only thing I'd say is that the monitor won't do that system justice. The gtx1080 really needs a 1440p screen as a minimum to really get the benefits, at 1080p it's just never using most of its power and you're limiting visual potential by a big margin. Otherwise, very nice.

An M.2 NVMe SSD card would have been nice for the primary drive too. Glad you're happy though, enjoy! :

1440p is resolution not screen size

This. :)

While it's true that 1440p and 4k monitors are often larger in size too as the higher res lets them show the image over a larger area without it looking too pixelated, it's quite possible to get ones in 24".
