Very pleased with new 15.6" Octane III

This is the first laptop I've bought from PC Specialist, and I'm really pleased with it.

Here's the headline specs:

Chassis & Display Octane Series: 15.6" Matte Full HD IPS LED Widescreen (1920x1080)
Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Processor i7-6700k (4.0GHz) 8MB Cache
Memory (RAM) 16GB HyperX IMPACT 2133MHz SODI 20160924_234414.jpg20161004_192326.jpg20161004_192402.jpgMM DDR4 (2 x 8GB)
Graphics Card NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 - 6.0GB GDDR5 Video RAM - DirectX® 12.1, G-SYNC
Memory - Hard Disk NOT REQUIRED
M.2 SSD Drive 128GB SAMSUNG SM951 M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 2000MB/R, 650MB/W)

Good spec components mean the machine flies - it boots fast, and works well even under heavy load with Office, Lightroom, PS and a game open.
Having only had Dell laptop's before, I was a bit concerned about what the quality of the chassis - but I've been presently surprised. It feel very solid, the key board is great to type on and the track pad responds really well. The speakers produce a good quality of sound (but aren't very loud).
Itis big and heavy - but that's ok, I was expecting that, and it's a something I'm willing to put up with for these internals.
My only one area of concern is that the screen back light is fairly uneven - with some bright patches extending from the screen edge into the screen, especially near the corners (see photo - a black powerpoint slide, with screen set to 50% brightness, taken on my phone with no editing). I'm going to contact PC Specialist about this.
Overall I'm really happy with this machine.

Hello mate, can you please help me to test the temperature of that 6700k under load? I've ordered the 15.6" Octane III as well but with the i7 6700. I'm still considering should I upgrade the 6700 to 6700k. The only concern for me is the temperature. If the 6700k is able to run stable without throttling under stress test, I'll be happy to go for the 6700k. Thanks.

I highly recommend you get the 6700k. Not because it runs more stable, but because you can undervolt it. Intel overvolts their CPU's by quite a large margin in order to increase their yields. Most CPU's can be undervolted by 100mV or more, which drastically cuts down temperatures and thus thermal throttling.

Hi, very happy to help, but have never run a test before. Can you suggest which test to use?

But if considering the temperatures, shouldn't the 6700 has a lower temperature as it can only reach 65W? Correct me if I'm wrong.

The screen looks like some light bleed from too much pressure on the screen by the framework of the case. If you unclip the trim around it, you could confirm if that was the case.

Do you mind sharing what the refresh rate of the monitor is? I can't find it anywhere if it's 60HZ or 75HZ. Thanks and congratulations with the purchase.

Got the same laptop but I'm worried the motherboard cheaped out on the usb type c/thunderbolt connectors and went with a sub gigabit speed( a usb type c slot with the bandwidth of an older model) as I couldnt find any 3.1/thunderbolt controllers..

Can you confirm?
