Ultranote IV 14" Review

Well, what a machine! I was drawn towards the Ultranote after noticing it had the new Kaby Lake Intel CPU's available (in my case I went for the i7 7500U). This is my first foray into custom builds after finally seeing my old Toshiba Satellite i3 bite the dust. My uses for this device swing towards recording/streaming to YouTube, dabbling with Photoshop and Vegas Pro along the way.

For a low powered U series CPU, it packs more of a punch than I truly expected. I have had no issues recording or streaming to my channel in 1080p @ 60fps (60fps isn't really necessary but I wanted to push it when deciding on how to produce this review.) To get this running smooth I've used OBS with their Intel QuickSync preset as opposed to the default x264 setting that OBS has on first start-up.

I haven't pushed it massively when using Photoshop/Vegas Pro but when I have used it, it's been a hell of a lot quicker than I expected when rendering projects. (I even gave Cinema 4D a whirl and it performed more than adequately considering the limitations the CPU/integrated GPU have.

As expected, boot up times are fantastic with the M.2 SSD and everything is running just the way I want it as of now. Long may it continue.

All in all, this is a fantastic ultrabook and I'm happy I finally made the jump to custom builds!

Hi,

could you mention noise and typing experience please? I type a lot (on Thinkpad) and am worried about typing noise and mushiness of the keyboard.

Thanks!
