Ssd

I am looking to purchase a new laptop (Optimus VIII) with a SSD.

Looking at the various options read / write speeds stand out as a defining performance.

The Samsung range of SSD's (PM & SM) stand out with read / write speeds north of 2800MB/R / 1600MB/W

Other SSD's (Sandisk / Kingston / Intel) generally hover around the 500MB mark for both read and write.

With the Samsung offering not been significantly more expensive am I missing something in understanding the performance of SSD's?

Thanks.

Could be different controllers or potentially that some of the drives are using SATA6 over the new M.2 interface.

LTT 'As Fast As Possible' did a good video on M.2 drives which goes into some of these differences;
