Small but powerful

Hi everyone,

My brother in law is looking on to buying a proper gaming PC.
He would need a good 1080p/60fps. I already think that he would need the 1060 (even 1070 if possible).
My problem is with the CPU, I have always had a hard time understanding which one to chose.

could someone help me out with which part to pick? I have some sort of a start build down here for you to have a look at.
The budget would be 1000euros (approx £850)

For £850 you wouldn't be able to fit a GTX 1070. Does the spec you posted includes windows?

Hi!

Yes I realised afterward of my mistake regarding the 1070.
And yes the spec above includes win10 (I did not see it as necessary to be shown).

Have the prices increased? My first version of my current pc cost approx the same (850) but I seem to be more limited now with the same budget.

When I ordered my pc last year, I felt like I could get more for the same price (counting a 960 instead of a 1060 though)

Depreciation of the sterling, newer components and the 1060 is significantly better than the 960

Well a GTX 960 was worth ~£160, while a GTX 1060 is a much more powerful card (more powerful than the GTX 970) and is ~£260 so that will be a big part of it.

Othrewise yes, prices have been affected by the weaker £ and have gone up.

The spec you posted above is about £1050.

You could get the RX 480 4gb rather than the GTX 1060. It's still a powerful GPU giving very competitive performance against the 1060 6gb, but is ~£60 cheaper.

A 450W PSU should also be fine for the build and for future high end GPUs, since the general thrust has been towards much more efficient cards than we were seeing even 4 years ago.

You could stick to the regular 7200RPM HDD, since the WD Black is £20 more and will make no difference to FPS in games.

8gb RAM would also be fine in gaming. The difference is negligible to non-existent:

http://techbuyersguru.com/gaming-ddr4-memory-2133-vs-26663200mhz-8gb-vs-16gb?page=3

Those changes would take the price down from around £1050 to more like £900.

Edit: Oh, and the i5 7500 is ~£30 cheaper. It has 100MHz higher base clock but 100MHz lower boost clock. I'm not sure you're going to notice the difference outside of benchmarks. https://ark.intel.com/compare/97123,88188
Not sure why PCS aren't selling the 7600 non-k at the moment, possibly a stock issue. But in its absence the 7500 is fine.

That's more like £880 now.

If it didn't need to be a mini system but could be a more regular size that would make it £100 cheaper still.
Sharkoon mini case: 180mm x 225mm x 370mm
SR 620 case: 470 x 220 x 416mm

The footprint is almost the same, it's just the height that's different.

e.g.

Case
PCS SR-620 MID TOWER CASE
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™i5 Quad Core Processor i5-7500 (3.4GHz) 6MB Cache
