Laptop for Animation & sound engineering

Hi there,

I've been umming and arring about buying a high spec laptop from here over the last month. My main concern is the build quality and the durability of the laptop. I'm a little worried as I did buy one from here about 9 years ago - the headphone jack basically fell out, and when it came back from repair there was glue residue everywhere! Basically the only real reason I've been drawn back here is because it's better value and I can customise everything.

I'm going to be using this laptop for video editing, creating animations on after effects, and using ableton live. Due to the nature of my job I have to be able to create and export videos quickly, whilst on the move, and then using it on performances with my group. Currently using a desktop ([email protected], 16gb ram @ 2400Mhz, Radeon R9 390).

Are these specs overkill?

Seeing that nobody replied Ill give you my two cents if you are still reading this. If you are doing animation,I mean not just after effects in 2D no...the specs are not overkill. They are for ableton music production and video editing. The processor itself is in fact great for video editing ultra high clock speeds will let you edit videos with no lag at all no matter how many effects u apply to em...rendering will also be great since its still a quad core. The GPU might be overkill for animation with just after effects but according to this article if you are moving towards 3D Animation : blender, maya, etc, the GPU particularly the vRAM in it will allow you to edit 3D scenes with a large scale.

If you dont plan on doing animation with said programs then you can do just fine with the same specs and a lower card:

Just keep the same specs.

The Hybrid drive is a waste of money, you already have a very good m2 SSD so the small SSD cache on the hybrid will not be noticed, a standard SATA 7200rpm drive will do as well and be cheaper, in fact it could be better. I am not sure on the config of that Hybrid but some only have a 5400rpm HDD part, if that is the case it would be slower than the SATA.
