My new Cosmos VI 17.3''

Hi,

I received my 17.3'' Cosmos VI 2 weeks ago and I already have an opinion about the purchase.

I was looking for a laptop for developing software, specially working with AndroidStudio and Eclipse. This why I ordered lot of RAM and 17'' monitor.

The purchase was easy after asking for some advice in the forums. The build process was perfectly tracked in pcspecialist site, it took about 6 days plus 2 days delivery to Ireland. All perfect. I collected my laptop in the local store where DPD left it for me.

I deleted the demo Win10 and installed a ubuntu 16.04. All perfect in 2 hours. Just created a bootable USB ubuntu drive, changed boot option in BIOS and installed next next next. Everything worked at the first time. With 32GB of RAM I did not need to create a swap space.

Having previously a Packard Bell for 8 years with 4GB RAM, I am now impressed with Cosmos VI with 32GB. No delays, not noise, everything very stable (because ubuntu), zero issues with drivers. All great. No doubt is the best computer I have ever had.

Things to mention (if they are any):
* everything is instantaneous with the RAM. In normal operation 4 processors of i7 works at 49 degrees with no noise at all. Zero delays.
* with some compilation in Android Studio, temperature goes to 90 degrees in 4 processors and fan makes a bit of noise, but it lasts for 10 seconds or so (about 10 minutes with my previous laptop),
* maybe I have lost some power in audio but is not something that worries me, Is good enough,
* computer is more light that my previous Packard Bell so, sometimes, when i move the monitor, the basis follows and I have to put my hand on top of the keyboard.
* keyboard is good, does not bend and easy to use
* i miss one more USB port, I have 3 and before I had 4,
* laptop starts and switches off in seconds,
* i miss a light for caps lock

but overall, not doubt the best laptop I ever had. Hopefully I will not finding surprises in future and will have computer for years until my next PCSpecialist laptop.

I just can say. Thanks guys, great work!!! I will recommend you.

Adolfo

Glad all went OK and you are happy with it. Good review (rep given) and helpful, especially for the 'nix users here as it is nice to know what works out of the box.

How do you feel about Ubuntu ditching Unity, I liked it and it was one of the reasons I chose Ubuntu as my main distro. Hopefully the Yunit project will work out.

Hi Stephen, I installed xubuntu from here https://xubuntu.org/getxubuntu/

created a bootable pendrive and changed the bios to start from the pendrive.

Everything worked out of the box, installed xubuntu in 10 minutes and configured my laptop with the same software of my previous laptop in 1.5 hours
