Proteus V1070 ST Review

I have had this machine for just under 2 weeks and it is simply superb!

I ordered this unit on a Friday from the 'Next Day Laptops' section just before 3pm and requested next day delivery, the only thing I changed was to upgrade the warranty to the Gold 3 Years. It was with me just before 10am on the Saturday which was great as it gave me the whole weekend to set it up!

The packaging was secure and I would definitely recommend keeping all of this in the unlikely event that the unit needs to be returned to PC Specialist.

My initial requirements for my laptop build was primarily for gaming and general work tasks, and with the 16GB RAM and 1070 8GB Graphics card this machine has completely satisfied this. In runs the most intense graphic hungry games such as Skyrim and Assassins Creed Black Flag on Ultra - with zero issues! And the XBox 360 controller is instantly recognised once the adapter is plugged in. Happy Days!

The Backlit keyboard is fun and very useful, however to get full functionality you need to install the Control Centre from the CD enclosed and you will need an external drive to do this. Thank you to Jemima on the PC Specialist Helpdesk for helping me with this!

Another great feature is the built in Bluetooth. I would strongly recommend getting a Bluetooth mouse as this will free up one of the USB ports. I got the Logitech M720 Triathlon which is available for around £40-£50 and is well worth the money.

For the base price of £1418 I honestly think you will not be disappointed and I look forward to using my new laptops full power for many months!

Sounds great How are the temps during gaming for the CPU and GPU?

I'm kinda interested in getting one of those myself. Can you disable / change the colors on the touchpad? That blue is too much Neon for me

Once the software is installed, you can do anything.

My power on button is red, keyboard is light blue and touchpad is light purple. Very nice and easy to set up.

Also, it's easy to access the interior of it? I might want to upgrade the RAM when these high prices (and global shortage) is over.

I’m in the market for a new laptop with a 1070 going and this one looks right on the money. What sort of temperatures do you get when gaming? Looks fantastic btw

Both of the temperature guides via the Control Panel do not go above 50. Normally around 46-48.

I do have a pretty decent cooling pad with 5 mini fans which obviously helps, and I recommend getting a similar one.

I can honestly say that I think the Proteus V1070 is a fantastic machine. It might take a bit of time setting up all the features to exactly how you want it, but it is SO worth it.

A great machine at a great price! Highly recommended.

How is fan noice and fan noise under load (without your cooling pad, of course)?

Note that the GTX 1070 runs a fair bit hotter than the 1060.

It seems the fan profile is a tad aggressive under load. So good temps, but more noise. I'm not sure if it comes with a control-centre type software that lets you customise the profile.
