I7 8700K cooler under £35? (with some OC potential)

I'm looking for an I7 8700K cooling solution for under £35. The height needs to be under 160mm.

Would like some potential overclocking ability as well, doesn't have to be crazy, even just a little.

I know, it's a strange request, but this is only temporary. Atm, I'm only using a GTX 970. When I upgrade the GPU (which, I have no idea when that will be, but will be a 1080Ti or higher) then I'll get a much better cooling solution for better overclock. Atm, I just need something good enough for now.

Thanks in advance!

Err.. you're going to spend £35 on a cooler now, then replace the GPU, then spend more on a cooler again? :/

Save yourself some money and effort and just get a decent cooler from the off. A Noctua NH-U14S or similar is around £60 and will do fine even with a decent OC.

What's your full system, and is this a PC Specialist PC?

Spec:

Case: CiT F3 mATX case, max CPU cooler height is 160mm
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z370M D3H Chipset LGA 1151 V2 mATX DDR4 SDRAM Motherboard
Ram: Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB (2x 4GB) 3600MHz DDR4
PSU: Corsair CX600M
GPU: Strix Asus GTX 970

Yeah, that's a good idea about the Noctua; will consider that.
I really hate that beige brown fan, though, lol (would of preferred it in black or blue). Can you elaborate further on it, and what kind of OC potential it has with the 8700k?

The PC is a mix of gaming, VR and game development. But with the current price of GPUs, I just wanted to upgrade the CPU/Mainboard/Ram now and upgrade the GPU later.

Btw, I'm upgrading from a 2011 era i3 2120 (lol), so even at stock clock, the i7 is going to be like another world for me.

The Noctua is as good as or better than many lower end water coolers, and I've seen it bench similarly to an H80. Only when you start getting to H80i V2 do water coolers start coming out on top. Make sure to give some thought to case fans and airflow as well if you have a super cheap case.

You can google benchmarks for what you're looking for, and see what turns up - e.g. see if anyone reviewing an 8700k also used a Noctua cooler in their test system. See if they tested OCing.

The forums belong to PC Specialist who build and sell custom PCs and laptops, so users aren't encouraged to give detailed advice on self build projects - you could also try an open forum like Tom's Hardware. :)
