New Laptop

Hello,
I am looking for a laptop that will be suitable for video editing and general work. I will be playing games here and there but not really that seriously. Is this pc that I have configured suitable? I have considered the upgraded 4K screen and also spending more for the i7, but will they be beneficial or overkill? Thank you.

If you can hold off a little I'd suggest waiting until PCS finish their refresh of their lineup, which is currently taking place, as the newer Intel 8th Gen CPUs will be vastly better for things like video editing thanks to their additional cores.

Certainly agree with waiting for new laptops. What is your budget as for video editing 16GB RAM may be better, although an option would be to go with 8GB but one stick not two and then upgrade to 16 if needed (PCS allow you to work on the machine without voiding the warranty).

The Recoil PCS have trailed might be a good fit, 8th Gen i7 and GTX 1050 ti, but we'll see when chassis are out and exact prices of complete specs are know I suppose :)

I think you’ll be under-gunned. I’ve just returned a Dell 7577 (i7 7700, 16GB, 1050Ti) that couldn’t handle 4K (jumpy and laggy frames, even in 1080 editing). Check out the Blackmagic Design forum on the flagship XPS 15 (also higher spec than you are considering), which says the same thing. Most editing software will state at least 16GB for 4K editing. I am about to buy i7-8 series, 32GB, 1070 with 256 SSD and 1TB HDD. Proxy files for editing can work, but equally can take an age to produce.

1) It's not allowed on the forum to recommend competitor models - for obvious reasons. Though certainly advising consumers to shop around in general is never a bad thing.

2) The OP has been advised to hold off for an 8th Gen i7 already, and quite rightly to go for more RAM too.

3) The OP's budget appears to be ~£1000 or so and nobody's going to get "i7-8 series, 32GB, 1070 with 256 SSD and 1TB HDD" for that money

:)

So the new Recoil is now out, although out of stock, is this a suitable build for video editing? It is a little more than I wanted but I am will to spend this much and wait a little longer.

It should do well and will be much, much better than your original spec.

Budget is the constraint of and if it weren't you might consider 32gb RAM and a GTX 1060. Depending on what you do exactly, these could have benefits.
