Hello,

I still own my last Pc Specialist gaming laptop bought in 2012 so I’m well overdue a much needed upgrade !

I’d just like to ask whether the 17” Octane V 144hz gsync 1080p display is an IPS panel ?

I suggest you ask PCS directly as the forums aren't an official support channel. The chassis are so new hardly anyone will have one yet.

Do please let us know what they say though, it will help a lot of other people :)

Total supposition, but if the 4k is IPS, I would imagine the 1080 to be as well, but as said, if you could feedback the response, we can let others know as well.

One other thing thats confusing me is the new i7 8750H, said to be the successor to the very popular 7700HQ, versus the i5 8400.

PcSpecialists are offering the new 8750H on some laptops and the 8400 on others.

I cant seem to find any comparisons yet ...I mean is the i5 8400 the desktop cpu ?

Exactly right.

The Octane has desktop CPUs like the i5 8400 and i7 8700k.

There's very little point for most people to buying an Octane with anything less than an i7.. because if you only need a desktop i5's performance, just buy a mobile i7 in a cheaper and smaller laptop.

The i7 8750H available in the Defiance, Optimus, Recoil, etc is the direct successor to the i7 7700HQ.
