Nvidia GTX 1180 Founders Edition looks set to rock PCs in July

It is a strange scenario atm. It feels like proper limbo mode. Basically to buy current gen card at current prices is a total rip-off (tho still much cheaper to what it was 6 months ago!) or wait a bit longer to "potentialy" get next gen at even higher prices - again it doesn't seem right.

Ideal scenario is that Nvidia finally drops prices of current gen in order to clear stock and then slightly increases the price of the next gen. But that is totally not what's happening now (and IMO unlikely to happen when next gen releases). All the current deals are about a "free SSDs", "free mouse" or some games .. come on!

It also feels there is still some hope for AMD Navi - but as we know it takes ages for completely new line to be released. We waited so long for Vega ... now we wait for next GTX. It's crazy. I would rather see a refreshed Vega lineup with GDDR6 at lower price.

A man needs a new GPU... but the actual product seem to be eluding him atm :p

Oh man you know how to spark an instant interest in another being. I shall watch that date closely now. Thanks for posting :)

I'm also keeping an eye on GPU's. I was very tempted to pick up a RX 580 or a GTX 660. Although paying 250-300 quid for something that is already a few years old is somewhat off putting. So I guess its either wait for new NVidia cards, or wait even longer for AMD's next release.

After the last round of Waiting for Godot (sorry, Vega) it would probably be worth taking the plunge short after the new Nvidia cards are released.

Or you could wait for AMD's next round, but it will be a good long wait (~6 months, maybe more). It won't be 'just around the corner'.

@ Oussebon,
Yes I think I will take that advice. Will see what the new NVidia cards are like and fingers crossed that they are reasonably priced.

I think their SLI giveaway comment is a joke ;)

I forgot how much I passionately hate tweaktown without an adblocker. And an adblocker blocker unblocker.

And yes I know they need ads to support the site but their ads tend to make any browser I use hellish slow or stop responding altogether. I'd read their stuff if they let me read their stuff!

I'm so torn at the moment. I've almost bought 1060 6GB, then changed my mind. Next day, my resolve weakened and almost bought RX 580 8GB (which I found pretty good deal on) - then at the checkout, again, I've realized what I am doing?! ...and decided to wait again. Since then I've changed and re-changed my decision like hundreds of times?!

To put it in perspective I game now on HD 6450 from my old plex server! yeah I know, Witcher 3 is like a torture on 15FPS - totally unplayable! Normally would be stronger with waiting buy then Battle of Azeroth is coming out super soon! Really regret now selling my R7950 - a rookie mistake. I fear that I will give in and buy GTX or RX before we will know some solid stuff on next gen GPUs later on this month.

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain." FH, Dune

Tricky.

If a milestone helps, the announcement is expected on 20th Aug. That's under 2 weeks of holding out.

Or, what monitor have you got? If you had one with Freesync that would be a reasonable excuse to buy an RX 580 at a cut price.

Unless it turns out that as part of HDMI 2.1 with variable refresh rate, Nvidia decide to support freesync. .. Yeah, right.

To be honest I only game on 1920x1080 and I do not plan to change that as I have 2x monitors already setup the way I want. I thought that RX580 is better (marginally but a better card still) than 1060 6GB.

I guess it depends on the relative pricing. Also AMD are doing a new games bundle with RX 500 and Vega cards in case you hadn't seen and any of those titles are of interest. I don't have the link to hand but assume you can find it :)

FRENZY!!!

I should be disturbed that I'm actually excited about it being 20... not 11... That's the detail I fixated on!

I’m fixated on Ray Tracing, I’ve been following unreal engines ray tracing stuff and it’s absolutely mesmerising...

Those are on the quadro RTX cards, but by all accounts the mainstream RTX cards won’t be far behind. And if I didn’t know better I would swear that the stormtrooper one is real people in uniforms. Just mind blowing!

This ones a consumer program outputting to unreal with ray tracing, check out the results:

And the only actual in game footage of an upcoming game I could find that utilises the new cards:

Watch out particularly for the running water flowing down the street as you turn the corner towards the house, just epic!

Those are stunning - now I feel doubly shallow, but twice as excited!

The Ray Tracing demo's are phenomenal. I wonder if that will also lessen the load with anti aliasing options too. That would be a huge for me.

It’s impressive isn’t it! The adoption at first will be only parts done with ray tracing, such as the stream in the metro demo, but as we go forward (touch wood that adoption is strong) then more aspects could be ray traced. It is a pretty epic result.

All those videos are on the fly real time rendering.
