Some PC Help would be great

Hey,

My first time getting a PC like this, and I'm wondering if anyone can help out with budgeting. I was originally going for 1000 euro maximum, but I also wanted something that would pretty much suit my gaming needs as well, and not have many(or any) limitations.

Mostly I'm just wondering if I can get anything as effective, for a better price. Right now this is above budget, but I'd love to go down if at all possible. I'm not worried about multitasking or anything like that, but I do want what I'm playing to run properly, without frame drops. Another question I have is how modular this motherboard is? I'm wondering if I can keep on using and upgrading this PC as time goes by. I'm hoping to not have to upgrade for a long time after this.

Thanks in advance,

You can get the same/better performance for less cash. :)

The i7 7700k is obsolete. In gaming (and many other uses) the 8th Gen i5 CPUs like the i5 8400 will offer similar or better performance for a lower price. See:

All motherboards are pretty standard, so you can connect any HDD or 2.5" Sata SSD up to it. Any new graphics card you buy to replace your 1060 in future should plug into the same slot no problems, etc.

However, 2 limitations you should be aware of with any motherboard. 1) New CPUs will almost certainly use different sockets, and CPUs in the not too distant future will probably also end up using DDR5 RAM as well. So if you decide you want to upgrade your CPU in 3 years, you probably won't be able to just slot a new one in. You'll probably need a new motherboard and maybe new RAM too. That's not a problem, it's just something to be aware of. 2) Connection options, like the number of Sata ports and M.2 slots. The H110M-R is an older, low end motherboard, which doesn't have an M.2 slot, so you wouldn't be able to add an M.2 NVMe SSD down the line.

You won't buy the H110M-R motherboard, as like the 7700k it is out of date, but make sure you have a rough understanding of what features any motherboard you do buy has and doesn't have :)

Case
PCS 6003B BLACK CASE
This case is quite basic and may limit future upgrade options. The cooling options will be limited too.

Motherboard
ASUS® H110M-R: Micro-ATX, DDR4, LGA1151, USB 3.0, SATA 6GBs
Memory (RAM)
8GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 2133MHz (2 x 4GB)
Motherboard already discussed. Note that cheaper motherboards like these often only have 2 slots for the RAM. I'd suggest buying 1x8gb so you can add another 1x8gb in the future without needing to replace existing RAM sticks, should you wish. It's also a good bit cheaper to get 1x8gb.
1st Hard Disk
500GB SATA-III 3.5" HDD, 6GB/s, 7200RPM, 16MB CACHE
The 1TB HDD is only a few € more, and gives double the storage and should be faster due to the larger cache.

DVD/BLU-RAY Drive
24x DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM
Do you need this? Most games are downloaded these days.

What OS are you using? Where is the licence key coming from?
Monitor
ASUS VP228HE 21.5" GAMING MONITOR
24" is often considered to be a bit more of a sweet spot for 1080p.

The H310M-PLUS has an M.2 slot that gives full PCIe 2.0 x4 speeds (unlike the cheaper H310M-A which is limited to x2, or the older H110M-R that doesn't even have one).
The Game Max Falcon has a lot of features for the price and plenty of cooling options.
