Need help as I'm new to the whole PC gaming thing

Hey,
I'll be headed off to uni soon and I'll be getting a new laptop. I'd like one that can comfortably run triple A titles at 60fps on like medium settings and I have a budget of about £1000. I just wondered what my best options are and whether if what I'm looking for is within my budget.

Any advice is much appreciated!

Thank you :)

The GTX 1060 will do a lot better than medium settings in AAA titles. On the one hand it might be tempting to go with the 1050 ti as a less expensive option. But on the other hand, you cannot replace the graphics card in a laptop as you can with a desktop. So you're stuck with what you buy at the outset and the only way to improve gaming performance in the future would be to buy a whole new system. Therefore going with the GTX 1060 will likely be more economical in the long run by significantly putting off the purchase of a new system, as well as giving much better gaming performance in the meantime. The SSD should make boot times and program/ game loading times much faster than with an HDD, though there is a 1TB HDD too for mass storage. You'll likely want to upgrade to 16gb RAM in the future, but 8gb is fine for now and there will be a free slow so you can add more RAM.

Thank you so much man, this is a great help. I do want to get a desktop in the not too distant future, but this would be really great. The SSD would be really useful, for gaming but also for my uni course as I'll be using quite demanding CAD type software.
Thanks again for your help and for such a quick response! :)

If you're using CAD and buying a desktop anyway there could be some merit in ditching the 1060 in favour of an i7 CPU. May depend on whether your laptop will be more for CAD or gaming after you get your desktop

I don't plan on getting a desktop soon, maybe in like 3-4 years time or whenever I have the funds really, sorry for any confusion. So I'd be using the laptop for both gaming and CAD so it'd probably be best to favour the 1060 over having an i7?

I'd say so, on balance. An i5 8300H is still probably better than what the majority of your cohorts will have so should be adequate for uni work/ But in 3-4 years the 1050 ti will definitely be showing its age for modern titles.
