Optimus XI VS Defiance XS II

Optimus IX VS Defiance XS II

Hello,

I'm looking for buying my first PC at pcspecialist, but I'm a little confused about the differences between these models.

My config will be : i7-8750H, 1060 6GB, 16 GB or 32 GB ram (still hesitating), 1 TO SSD.

I'm looking for a 15" laptop. I'm emilinating the Vyper, even if thickness is not really a problem, because of the screen, cause 60hz seem poor, and because of the battery life too.

So I'm searching for the best cooling, builded chassis, and the best screen too. Battery life is important to an extent.

My uses are : 4K video Editing, music creation, gaming.

I'm wondering what are the différences between Optimus XI and Defiance XS II, the two that are grabbing my attention right now.
Is it the same screen ?
Is cooling similar ?

The defiance XS (not the II) seem to have a not that good screen, regarding to some reviews. What are your thoughts about that, guys ? And is it the same in the new one ?

Also, is 32 GB ram Worth it with i7-8750H and 1060 6GB ?

Looking forward for your advices guys,
A big thanks in advance !

Cheers !

Edit : -adding an Optimus VIII screen test, that is seemingly poor. I can't find more infos about the IX, but I really wanna know. http://www.trustedreviews.com/reviews/pc-specialist-optimus-viii-performance-screen-and-sound-page-2

cause 60hz seem poor,
Why? Unless you're editing footage that's captured over 60fps and you want to play it back in real time, it's not really an asset for video editing. 144hz can be nice for some gaming, though many demanding titles will run little more than 60fps on that hardware and it's not like 60hz is bad.

The difference between the XS and an Optimus is that the XS is thinner and lighter. Some people have found the chassis struggles with cooling the hardware - though obviously many more have not found that or else the forums would be literally inundated.

I feel like the Defiance XS had a different screen. It was 120hz, TN and had not gsync iirc, while the XS 2 is 144hz, IPS and gsync? Likewise the Optimus VIII screens were all 60hz.

If you're editing 4k footage and want to view it at that res you would probably want a 4k screen.

32gb would be a complete waste for gaming. It may be useful for your video editing, perhaps.

Thanks for the useful infos, mate.

I just found out too that the Optimux IX is actually cheaper than the Vyper for the same config. While having a better screen and battery, and being thinner. So I'm really looking to getting this one now.

The optimus IX has a 144 hz FHD screen.

Any cooling struggles with the previous Optimus tho ? And is it the exact same chassis as the new one ?

My only concerns really are about the screen quality, as I read some bad reviews on color fidelity, contrast etc. on previous modelsand the

So I want to know the exact reference for the screen to look for it, and / or some comments / reviews about Optimus IX. Can you help me find this, mate ?

Many thanks !

PS : OK about the ram. As it's pretty expensive right now, I'm wondering. By the way, will it be beneficial to install more than 2400mhz ram with this config ?

I wasn't advocating for the Vyper, I was just saying a 60hz screen really isn't poor :)

Not to my knowledge, although only 1 model of Optimus sold by PCS used to pack a 1060, and it was a separate model from the other Optimuses they did. Also note that Optimus is what PCS call the laptop. They are Clevo chassis and just because PCS slaps the name Optimus on it (which places it within the PCS product lineup) doesn't mean it's the same Chassis design.

But afaik previous Optimuses were fine for temps. As and where people have occasionally reported temp issues with various Clevo chassis it seems to be CPU, especially since Kaby Lake. And the Coffee Lake CPUs are no hotter than their Kaby Lake predecessors.

And is it the exact same chassis as the new one ?

No idea, I suggest you phone PCS and ask for the model, which you can then google. If you get that from them, please do post up here :)

I've no idea. I'd say no as PCS don't sell it as an option so I assume it doesn't support higher frequencies. Also 32gb 3000MHz SODIMM is about £150 more than 2400MHz.

For what it's worth, I think the model/chassis of the Optimus itself is a Clevo N850EK1 - https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/clevo-laptops/40/

Was just talking to PCSpecialist.
I can confirm that. And also, the screen of the Optimus IX is an LG LP156WF6-SPK6. Hope this can help others.

Thanks for the valuable informations Oussebon !

For less than 100e of difference for my config between the optimus and the defiance, I'm still wondering if it's Worth it or not. It seems like one is in plastic and the other is aluminium alloy. Don't know if it's important or not.

Any good other infos about these two new models would be highly appreciated !
