Need help with my graphics card/pc in general

Hi, I purchased my PC about 2 months ago and have recently invested in a second monitor to dual screen. I have a GeForce GTX 1050TI graphics card and only has a hdmi, dvi and display port. My monitor only has a VGA and HDMI port so i invested in a DVI-HDMI adapter. On my monitor screen it says no cable connected, but its not my monitor as it works for other things. I have purchased a new adapter and it still doesn't work so I believe there is a fault with my graphics card or is it just a setting that can be changed.

Please help as it is really annoying and i feel like i have wasted money on a new monitor which would be a pain in the butt

Many Thanks, Olivia

Edited as the more I look into this, the more I realise I don't know what I'm talking about - better wait for a more knowledgeable contribution from someone else!

I don't think that the DVI and HDMI outputs can both display at the same time.
Really? Is that some weird thing with the 1050ti that means they can't be used simultaneously?

(I ask cos my older 770 used 2 dvi's and one hdmi at the same time, and currently my 1070 has 1 DVI, 1 HDMi and 2 DP's in use (with DP convertors to HDMi))

I've no real idea. Are the monitors the same resolution? What resolution and refresh rate?

If you unplug both monitors and cables from your GPU, then plug in the DVI to HDMI adapter cable and connect 1 monitor (so that only 1 monitor is connect to the PC), does it work?

I too would have gone with a DP to HDMI adapter, as this also carries sound (no idea if your monitors have speakers) and doesn't involve those screws on the DVI cables, but it should be 6 of 1 or half a dozen of the other afaik...

Hi Olivia, seems like a bit of an odd one you have here. If the DVI isn't working on its own generally that would avoid anything else interfering (so long as you have physically unplugged the HDMI). I of all people know from time spent setting up monitors with various different connections here in the office that adapters can be spotty when it comes to support but again it would be unusual for 2 to see the same issue.

Have you at all tried cleanly installing your graphics drivers? I've seen drivers cause connection specific issues rarely in the past so it is definitely worth a go. If you are going ahead with this, I suggest using the display driver uninstaller tool that you can find here: http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

Be sure to have your new drivers ready as most people can't bear looking at their onboard graphics for too long.

Naturally if you are seeing issues still, please feel free to give us a ring at PCS.
