Custom build desktop

Hi I like to get a custom build PC, I like to have a recommended desk top and screen that supports 4k. I have no need of water coolant. Here are my specs 16gb of ram runing a graphics card, the 1080 or the 1080ti. i'm not sure my budget say about £3000 to £5000 but i must say a £5000 desktop is a bit over kill but it needs to be future proof, would say future proof for at least the next 5 years. really need to start saving... i cant really say what games i am going to run but i do like like my fps so say doom or any power hungry game in the same range.

To future proof a PC you either need to upgrade it or buy a new one
cause if you don't change the parts then in 3 years time the parts will all be 3 year old tech

if you have a budget of around £3000 then why not buy two PC's one now and one in about 2/3 years time
then you can have a pretty top end PC for 5/6years

£1600 will get you a pretty good game rig

check out Vulcan X https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/configure-review/269/ @£1636 pretty much plays anything out at the moment
and will still be pretty good for the next few years
then when thats getting slow come back and get another

I can't agree with the Vulkan X in this case.

I'd say it's worth paying the premium for faster RAM, a better motherboard with more features, plus the additional storage.

The argument of "buy 2 PCs, not 1" is one I make when people rock up with £5000 and want to buy an 18-core CPU monster for casual gaming. But in this case, thta just doesn't work as an argument. The single system above should do them well for 5 years, with possibly an occasional GPU upgrade.

Buying an 8700k-based system now, but gimping it with slow RAM, etc, with the intention of buying a whole new system in 3 years is kinda nuts versus buying a decent base platform that will be good for 5-6 years and just upgrading the GPU every few years like a normal person.

Hi am not interested in the 5.1 sound card as i have a small room and dont have a good enough placement. I may get Q Acoustics 2010i Bookshelf Speakers but dont know what amp and soundcard to get. What would you recommend?

This just means "whatever the motherboard gives you by default". In fact all the motherboards in this range can support upto 7.1 audio, as far as I know. But you can still use basic headphones, 2 speakers, etc, it doesn't have to be 7.1 / 5.1 audio.

You might want to consider an external DAC / amp etc, possibly using the motherboard's optical-out audio (which the mobo I posted above has). You could check on the head-fi forums and website for very detailed advice about audio matters, as that site will have a lot more expertise than here.

In terms of the general PC spec, I'd suggest you hold off purchase at this point as Nvidia are expected to announce their new gen of GPUs very soon, probably on 20th August. Also Intel's new CPUs are expected to be out in October. But at the very least wait for the new GPUs.

I heard so, im saving up for it so that will take 6 or 7 months. If you dont mind me asking what desk do you use? I need a new desk that fits in a small place.

Things will probably be quite different in 6 or 7 months. As well as the new Intel and Nvidia things coming out, AMD are expected to release Ryzen 2 CPUs and Vega GPUs on 7nm, so so check again for detailed advice closer to the time.

I use an ikea galant desk that I'm very pleased with, though my model is not very small at all.
