Soon I will be starting my new education. This having the follow courses: VR, Photoshop, video editing, website-coding (HTML, CSS) and some graphic design.

I have been looking at laptops for a while now and came across this variant yesterday on PCSpecialist. It has a slick design and I even e-mailed a worker about their opinions on my questions.

I mainly wonder tho, how's are the temps and how is the fan? I heard in a few reviews that the fans are incredibly loud. Knowing that I have to use heavy-applications for a long period of time in a classroom with multiple people, I don't know if this is a dealbreaker.

Anybody that can share their opinion on their own Recoil II? :)

If you're in a classroom with people presumably doing the same thing on their laptops, they're all either going to have a) somewhat audible fans or b) cooked laptops.

There are some reviews here if you've not seen:

Part of the Recoil II’s thermal successes is due to the fan noise – it comes in over 5 dB louder than the Tracer III, which does make it noticeably louder to the human ear.

Now, the Tracer III is an impressively quiet laptop, and I still wouldn’t say the Recoil II is the loudest I have heard – it is still a fair bit quieter than the Aorus X9 DT, for instance. Regardless, the fans do get quite noticeable while gaming and you are likely to start annoying anyone else in the same room.

Stress tests were handled well by the beefy cooling system. Under maximum sustained CPU load, we observed temperature just below 70°C, and the fans were relatively calm but certainly audible.

the operating noise is never annoying even at full load (via google translate)

The Italian site has a video but I'm not sure if you can hear the fan noise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tO79awQiCTs

Techteam GB seemed a bit less impressed. Seems their unit had much higher temps that what most people have been posting on the forum and what other reviewers have seen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISJKJ3yMzuY so that won't have helped fan noise.

Have you already seen user reviews of the Recoil II on the forum here?

I haven't yet do you mind linking it? (I am quite new with navigating these forums here haha).

Thank you tho for the quite open response. Seems like it is not THAT bad as expected. I still see tho that it is around 54-55 Db. That's still less than some gaming laptops right?

According to Kitguru, quite a bit less than some, yes. Their comment about the noise annoying people in the same room is probably aimed it if you are in a fairly quiet room with other people doing quiet things. If you're in a classroom with people all running their laptops, moving, discussing work, probably less of an issue. You probably won't be rendering videos in the university library!

The general "post a review" sub forum is here: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?15-Show-off-your-new-PC-Laptop!

There's a thread here with a few people commenting on it: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/foru...-keyboard-altering-backlight&highlight=recoil

This thread has some general discussion, with a few people posting reviews later on in the thread: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?59069-new-2018-Recoil-II&highlight=recoil

Needless to say it's possibly more likely people will bother posting negative rather than positive feedback - while some people will just gush as they're in love with the new shiny toy. Not the people above specifically, just people in general :) So make your own mind up about what you read!

I think I am sold on this one :)

Kinda sucks regarding the battery live tho, but it's something I can live with. Aslong the temps are as good as in the reviews then I have nothing to complain. Only hoping the build quality will be good, because once I have it I really cannot afford to send it back rather soon (as in time- wise).

So far this is also one of the laptops amongst my price range who seems to have great colour in it's screen (72% NTSC which accumelates around 90+ RGB and 70+ aRGB if I am correct). Cannot wait to purchase mine soon :)

You didn't say what budget / spec you were looking at, but make sure to check out this page: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/reviews/

The review specs are ones PCS have sent out to magazines for review (such as the specs above) that are then sold as a fixed spec with a discounted price. There are about 4 Recoil IIs on there. The bit-tech review one I think has a discount of about £100 versus what the same spec manually configured would be: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/configure-review/264/

The Italian review https://www.hwupgrade.it/articoli/p...l-ii-pochi-fronzoli-tanta-sostanza_index.html and Bit Tech review http://bit-tech.net/reviews/tech/laptops/pc-specialist-recoil-ii-review/6/ both have metrics on the screen. Bit-tech says 96% sRGB and 73% AdobeRGB. I don't really follow this stuff but if you do it's there for you to go through :)

Keep us posted!

Yeah sorry, I will post it about it now :):

My budget is around 1500-1600 euros maximum.

The current specs I have in mind are the (new) i7 8th gen (8750H hexa core), 1060-6GB (VR), dual-channel 16 GB RAM (from what I read, RAM speed isn't really important but i will I get 2 x 8 2666 Mhz anyway). I will get the 144 Hz display, better coolin paste, Samsung 970 - 250 GB SSD and 1 TB barracuda 7200 RPM.

The few reviews I have seen had the specs I looked for. I eill also check out your links :)

I was about to get the Dell G5 15 at first. But it kinda sucks it has a 1060-Max Q and it's screen has horrible RGB colouring (less than 55% RGB).

Hello,

I'm also searching for a good variant and yes, I've considered Recoil II. Just wondering whether you managed to get it and how it's working now, because I also need one for my course projects (Corel DRAW, Corel Photo-Paint and SolidWorks will be the basic programs). I've read a couple of reviews on it (on Bit-tech and Kitguru mentioned by the moderator), but I would appreciate you feedback as well. Thank you.

Edit: if not Recoil II, what would you recommend?

TerryLewis, I might suggest making a new topic with what you need, what you need it for, and a guideline budget.

Recoil II is being phased out in favour of Recoil III if it hasn't already (though granted the chassis are similar).

Also this topic is almost a year old!
