Just ordered my third PCS PC

HI all,

Here are the specs...

Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™ i7 Six Core Processor i7-7800X (3.5GHz) 8.25MB Cache
Motherboard
ASUS® ROG STRIX X299-E GAMING: ATX, USB 3.1, SATA 6 GB/s, WIFI - RGB Ready
Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 2666MHz (2 x 16GB)
Graphics Card
NONE, I ALREADY HAVE A GRAPHICS CARD
1st Hard Disk
1TB SEAGATE FIRECUDA 3.5" SSHD
1st M.2 SSD Drive
128GB INTEL® 760p M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (upto 1640MB/sR | 650MB/sW)

This is my third PCS pc. The first one I got in 2012 I was on a tight budget.... performed okay-ish aha, then I got another in 2014 which had plagued me with BSOD issues which I believe was to do with the RAM, I didn't get much help from PCS after multiple emails and sending in the BSOD reports. Stepped away from PC gaming for a while as work got extremely busy. So now in 2018 im fiiiiiiiinally getting back into PC gaming. This build has just been ordered just wondering if anyone recommends changing anything...

Thanks

Yes, cancel it and reorder with the latest gen of CPUs and without the sshd which has terrible performance.

Post your budget and use and Oussebon will appear like a phantom at some point and create you the best build you can hope for. And that currently isn't it.

As above, I'd suggest that you start here:

https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/computers/intel-z370-overclocked/

and go for an I7-8700K.

For gaming, 32Gb of RAM is overkill and the RAM in your build isn't the fastest. You'd probably get better performance from 16Gb of 3200MHz RAM.

A standard 7200ropm HDD and a slightly larger SSD could be better - the SSHD does have some issues and with the SSD you won't really need it. I'd suggest a larger SSD because you want it to house your operating system and a few favored games - whatever you are into right now. I have a 128Mb SSD and after Windows I struggle to get some of the larger-file games into it (Total War Warhammer 2 is massive, other games are similar).

Something like this could be a good starting point (though, case etc. is a matter of personal taste):

Hi,

Thanks for the insight.... saved me there. I understand 32Gb being overkill for nearly all games but I want to get back into Star Citizen... I have been told that it can quite heavy on the RAM. Would you still suggest the 32GB is not required?

This is my revamped order...

Looks much better. Though some bits might still be overkill. How much overclocking are you going to do? Enough to justify that cooler? Do you really need that mobo? Get silver warranty at least (only £5).

What GPU you putting into it too?

This.

The i7 7800x is completely obsolete, with the i7 8700k (the the Z370 platform, as per polycrac's spec) offering simply better performance

Do note that even faster Intel CPUs, with more cores, are expected to launch in October. If you're playing quite CPU demanding games, it could be worth holding out.

If are going with a spec right now:

What graphics card are you using?

What monitor are you using?

Why the Asus Z370E motherboard?

Ditch the fan controller, you don't need this and it's expensive

The Samsung 970 Evo is faster than the Intel 760p, despite what the 'upto' numbers say.

lol, you having said that and then fully ninjaing me on the same points ;)

Hey,

Firstly, thanks for the input.

When I initially went to build the pc... it didnt give me the 8700 as an option for CPU.

I am using a ROG 8gb 1080
I haven't purchased a monitor yet
the z370e... I have since changed to the TUF Z370-PLUS GAMING
Fan controller ditched
changed to 970 evo

Yeah, this is because it's on the Z370 (socket 1151) motherboards, not X299 (Socket 2066) so comes under a different configurator, as polycrac linked :)

For the motherboard I'd actually suggest the Gugabyte Ultra Gaming as it has a very nice feature set e.g. USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type C, and better onboard sound, and I think with current prices it's £30 more.

What's the budget for the monitor?

Thank you for the suggestion! I will change to that board. I haven't looked too much into screens if I am honest. Will this setup be okay for a 144hz g sync screen?

My budget for thr screen I have set aside 1500.

How will this setup be playing most games? I'm so behind with everything now.

Yeah. This should cost ~£500 or so

But as previously mentioned you may be much better advise to just wait for new tech.
