Upgrading RAM question

Hi,

Way back in 2012 I bought a PC Specialist desktop and now I'm looking to update the computer a bit; I don't need anything cutting-edge but I thought a couple of upgrades would be useful for playing a few newer games. I went to the Upgrade section of the PCS site and it allows me to upgrade my graphics card, but says there are no amendment options available for the RAM.

I'm wondering whether anyone could tell me what it is in my spec that restricts me from upgrading the RAM? I'd been hoping to increase it to 16gb.

Mainly the fact that nothing modern uses DDR3 so PCS don't sell it any more.

For gaming there would be very, very little advantage to 16gb RAM, and RAM prices are sky high these days too. You can find and buy your own RAM elsewhere, but I'd recommend holding off since the merits are slim and the prices are far too high.

You could also hold off on upgrading the GPU as new ones are about to come out. If you want to buy one right away I'd probably suggest shopping around as there's no obligation to buy upgrades via PCS and you may well get a better deal on a GPU elsewhere. :)
