Help With new OPTIMUS IX

Hi

I recently received my optimus laptop and i am very happy with it, i just have a few questions from a complete beginner.

First is processor related- i have the i7 8750h which has a turbo of 4.1mhz. How do i activate this? Will the device use this power as and when it is needed or do i need to command it to do so?

Next up a graphics question. I have all the Nvidia apps and updates installed, I have control centre the other app (forget the name) and all drivers are up to date, i have run a few benchmark tests but they appear to be selecting the intergrated graphics Intel hd instead of the 1050ti. I can see in the nvidia app under 'my rig' it shows my 1050ti, and i see it under the about my computer area in settings. Will my machine know when to switch to the 1050 or do i need to tell it somehow?

Last question, i had the computer shipped with no OS as i had purchased a key. It arrived with windows 10 home, so i went to the website and made sure i had the latest version installed and updated etc. Once the updates had run and completed i tried my product key to activate windows, and it said not valid something something. Is this a dodgey key or am i doing something wrong? I have the latest version of windows 10 installed with all updates (took ages). The key is from The key factory .com and was a £14.99 key for windows 10 home.

Thanks in advance for the help. My first step into the PC world (from console) and contrary to what i have heard i am finding the community to be amazingly helpful.

Turbo boost is automatic - as long as the CPU has thermal and power headroom to sustain it. Note that 4.1GHz is the single-core turbo, so if the CPU is under heavy load across multiple cores then the boost is a bit lower.

You could run something like Firestike benchmarks, which have a series of GPU, CPU, and combined tests, and monitor CPU frequencies, temps, etc during those benchmarks (possibly with something like MSI Afterburner)

Why do you say that? What did you run, and what happened?

The laptop should know but sometimes it won't. Copy/pasta:

For laptops:
Try setting the Nvidia GPU as the preferred graphics processor in the global settings, and in the app settings you can also add games and set a specific setting for that

For laptops and desktops:
And set the Windows Power Plan to High Performance:

And set the GPU power settings to max performance:

Windows Home would generally cost ~£90 new from 'regular' sources.

You can ask the vendor for support with that key, or ask MS for help activating Windows. I'd also check out the refund policy of the vendor you got it off, and hopefully you bought it with Paypal or a credit card, or something that offers you some protection from being sold dodgy goods online...
