ULTRANOTE 14" review - used for Linux Mint

See my new computer spec below

I bought this with NO operating system specifically to run Linux Mint 19.

Quick summary: - very pleased indeed.

If you're thinking of doing the same then make sure you read up about installing Linux on to what is essentially a computer meant for Windows...what do I mean?
Well when you first turn on the machine (supplied without an OS) it appears to have Windows 10 on it!!?? ...but it hasn't really, you need to know how to turn off the UEFI so that you can boot your Linux live USB stick eg look at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/disabling-secure-boot
Now reboot and you're good to go.

PS If you are thinking of dual booting with linux and windows - my advice is don't bother. Use Linux as your main OS - then use VirtualBox to run a copy of Windows inside - this works really well.( I have one program called Proclaim which I use as presentation software in Church which will only run on Windows, and so have to have the access to Windows in some form)

Generally very pleased with amount of memory, speed of processor and super fast SSD. Physical build of computer seems great, quite lightweight and thin.
Don't forget being a notebook has no DVD drive ... but I have a cheap functional external one anyway for those rare occasions.

Doesn't seem to get particularly hot even under a heavy load ( great Linux program called "glances" which shows things like CPU temp etc)

PCSpecialist keep you informed all along the way re order/building/delivery - all exactly as promised.

PCS will have put that on it in order to test the system before shipping (they wouldn't be able to install the drivers to test it without an OS). If that helps explain what that was doing on there :)

There are quite a few people who seem to order without an OS and just activate with their own licence key. That, and saving themselves some time, is why I guess they don't remove it when they're done.

Good to hear the system is behaving itself. Thanks for posting up the review and experiences running Linux on one of their systems!

It also proves it boots up when you get it, when all said and done :)
