My Lafité spec.

Hi

I would just like opinions on 2 of my chosen options.

1. 500GB SAMSUNG 970 EVO M.2

2. 3 Year Gold Warranty (2 Year Collect & Return, 2 Year Parts, 3 Year Labour)

Concerning the drive, is this the better choice compared to the WD black?

Concerning the warranty, what's the general turnaround time if things do go wrong?

And 2 further questions.

What kind of battery life could I expect for non gaming day to day usage?

Is anyone using Sennheiser PXC550 bluetooth headphones with their Lafite, and if so does everything work smoothly.

Feel free to advise tweaking of spec too.

Thanks in advance.

That depends on the issue, and factors like stock. It can be more than a few days, but there's no set time afaik. You could phone PCS and ask them directly, since almost all of us on the forums are just customers so only have that perspective.

Both are good drives. There's not much in it. I believe the 970 Evo is a bit better, but if one was quite a bit cheaper than the other I'd go with the cheaper one as performance is very competitive.

What are you using the PC for exactly? Any specific software?

No nothing specific. It's actually for my son for 6th form and hopefully Uni.

He looks after his stuff but recently had an issue with a poorly made HP laptop which I managed to get a full refund on from John Lewis UK. So my starting point is £650 back after 18 months usage :)

I know it's overkill, but if I can get 4 years out of it, it makes sense. I like the open case policy.

I won't buy HP again, and when you look at similar specced 14 inch laptops it's Lenovo priced territory. I did look at an earlier Lafite model last time around but it seemed the keyboard was an issue back then. I can spec this to easily have the better of a Dell XPS 13 which to my mind is the only thing that interests me other than this. He definitely wants 14 rather than 15.6 so it does limit options.

I suppose for me it's all about build quality and after sales service.

The spec seems fine.

Arguably a 500gb SSD and 16gb RAM are more than needed , especially for college. He's not going to be running games on that, so a 256gb SSD ought to be way more than enough, plus 1TB HDD if there is, say, a large and expanding media collection. It doesn't really matter to a ripped DVD whether it lives on an SSD or HDD. But the spec's not unreasonable, even if you're possibly spending more than you might have to. :)
