My 14" LAFITÉ III Order

I thought I would create a new thread monitoring my order.

It was a bespoke order placed on the Wednesday 19th September 2018 and is due to be delivered on Monday 24th September using DPD who normally offer an excellent, informative and accurate delivery schedule. That turn around is quicker than I imagined after speaking with pcspecialist prior to placing my order although I was told they are much more likely to offer a 4 -6 working day turnaround on a laptop than a PC at the moment.

I look forward to Monday and will post again once I have wiped Win Home and installed Win Pro and got laptop up and running.

Delivery was made yesterday and a fresh install of Win 10 pro was pretty straightforward although I had to get an additional drive for wifi card sent by email as it was missing from my downloads area.

first impressions.

. Build quality is nice.
. Trackpad seems mediocre
. A bit of light bleed at the top of the screen
. Keyboard is nice
. For a period of about 1 hour the screen kept on going to monochrome with black lines down it and no image. I can't replicate the problem anymore, but I do think it is/was drive issue. Watch this space on this point.

Overall it looks and feels good.

Any additional thoughts on the machine? When you say the track pad is mediocre is it still usable? How is the fan noise? Any more issues with the screen? Thanks.

I actually bought this for my son. He is a ditherer so it's hard to evaluate properly. However the track pad is pretty poor. His 2 biggest issues are the physical bar part of the pad in conjunction with the small size of the actual pad. He can't understand why the physical bar even exists because without it it would be possible to make the track pad larger. Also the feel of the pad is very rough. To me the whole design of it makes no sense. He also complains about the mouse pointer wandering when you try to close a page in anything. Pressing Fn F1 twice which turns off/on the touchpad sorts this problem. that's definitely a driver/software issue although all drivers are up to date (spoke to tech on this point).

Fan noise is fine, and when it does kick in it's not obtrusive. The screen is good. Other points are, and I'm being critical here, the ethernet port cover would be better if it locked, it's possible to catch it if using laptop in bed for example. The built in DAC is just ok (when I can find my Cambridge Audio soundmagic DAC he can use that and problem solved).

It definitely has a premium feel to it (again the touchpad just feels out of place on it)

LENOVO IP720 S is an alternative but there are serious issues with fan noise on the Levono

I removed the link as it's not allowed to post links to competitors' stores/products etc or give sales advice on them, but I'm sure technotic can google and evaluate for themselves or take recommendations on an open forum like Tom's hardware in terms of A vs B vs C, as well as being armed with the detailed feedback on the Lafite here :)
