New Desktop

Hi All

I am looking for a New Desktop PC for a budget of between £1500-£1750

The main purpose of the PC would be to run Football Manager on the best possible settings to run as much of the database as possible, would also like to play further Sports games like Fifa and F1 so a fairy decent graphics card but doesn’t have to be the greatest as I’ll only be playing on HD not 4K

I would also need to use it for Excel for work and my daughters homework.

We also stream Via Sky Go,Amazon Prime etc.

I would also like a DVD drive as we have Winx converter that converts our DVD’s allowing us to convert to the IPAD

Thanks for your help

Football Manager likes CPU speed, CPU cores, hyperthreading, RAM frequency, and storage speed. So the fastest CPU currently available, overclocked, with fast RAM and a fast SSD seem suitable here. Will also handle Excel workloads well. A GTX 1060 6gb should handle gaming very well in 1080p, though not ultra settings in all titles.

No worries :) Just so that you're aware, Intel are releasing new CPUs in October. They're expected to offer a bit better performance per £ and introduce a new higher end option too.

Am I better to hold off for a while do you think then ?

My current one is just about chugging along, although I’ve had it around 8 years so it’s about as slow as can be 😂

I might hold off for 1-2 months and ask for your expertise again if ok ? Gives me time to save up some money too.

Would the above have Bluetooth capability for a mouse ?

Not as it stands but you could add a USB bluetooth adapter for a few quid.

If the current system works I'd probably hold out. Obviously there are always new things, maybe every six months or so, in the PC hardware world, but since this one is just a few weeks away (I think I heard 9th Oct somewhere for the announcement?) it could be worth checking again in 2-3 weeks to see what the deal is and maybe maximise bang for buck.

That said, the difference is expected to be fairly slim for the 9700k versus the 8700k so if you're desperate you'd not miss out hugely I don't think.

Hi Oussebon

As advised I waited a while to see if the new CPU had much difference to the build suggestion ? Would you say the build quote above is probably still the way to go ?

Thanks for your help

Go with the i7 9700k instead, as it is better and a little cheaper.

The RX 580 8gb graphcis card is £20 cheaper and performs a smidge better in F1 (2018), so you may as well go with that.

The Samsung 970 Evo 500gb is a little faster than the WD Black I believe and £10 less.

I would be tempted to go with the AORUS Pro motherboard as it has some good extra features and decent cooling for certain motherboard components. The cost is mostly absorbed by the savings above.

How quiet are you looking for the system to be? Top priority or not majorly fussed provided it isn't a banshee? If not majorly fussed, go with the H100x cooler.

Maybe get the 650W PSU for a little more upgrade headroom.

So a bit better spec plus more features for the same price I think?

Consider the £5 warranty upgrade,
