First Pc

So this will be my first pc ordered to specs I would like. I do not have the skill to build my own so Pcs came to the rescue with the service they offer. I Pre-ordered this at the very end of August. Unfortunately the card I wanted with the PC is out of stock. I think I will be waiting for the card to be restocked though as I do not know the other Brands. And Asus seems to be doing well on the bench marks  .

What is your budget and use? That'll help the folks here to fine tune it if/where necessary so you can get the maximum bang for your buck

Budget is slightly flexible. I went for the 8GB ASUS 2080 as I would like new Gen. And it just opens doors for later. I did not go for the 11 gb TI as I feel I will probably never fully utilise it and my monitor would not be suited to it. can always upgrade in the next few years. Biggest frustration is that the Asus card is sold out. Having waited near a month for it that is frustrating. They said i could have a standard 2080. which I had no idea what that meant. So phoned up and the guy mentioned Zotac. I looked it up but could not find much about it. Other than the cooling was not as good. So Far I believe i will just wat for what I have ordered. It will be used for gaming mostly and maybe some video Editing, Amateur .

There are some changes I would have made:

You've ordered a very slow M2 drive, not any faster than a normal SATA drive which kind of defeats the object. A fast Samsung or WD Black wouldn't have cost much more (literally a couple of quid) for 5 times the speeds.
Why the 500Gb SSD?
No need for 1000W PSU.

That monitor is a very poor pairing with a 2080 as it will never tax the 2080, you could have got a 1070 and it would give exactly the same performance.

Oh wow a couple of quid for 5x the speed is not bad at all. The idea was use the M2 for operating system. Use the SSD for current games/projects. The SATA would then just be for big storage of old files, music/photos etc. yeah the Monitor is not ideal. I plan on getting a second monitor in upcoming months with better suited specs. would you suggest I change that M2? The 1000w psu was just in case and if I started adding to the PC later on.

You could happily go down to a 550W PSU and still have room for upgrades in the future.
It's worth changing the M2 drive for a samsung 970 Evo or a WD Black, they're generally the best performers. I think the WD is a little more expensive.
Storage makes more sense now the way you have it configured.
I would suggest cancelling the monitor and ordering a 1440p 144hz with GSync from another site for instance the Dell in my signature, that would be far better suited to the card and the gsync and then you're not throwing away over £200 on what's going to be a secondary display which you could happily buy for £70. If it's being used as a secondary display, the high refresh and 3d just wouldn't be used?

Going to change the M2 to the Samsung and start researching some gsync monitors. Thank you very much for the advice!

NB - the 970 Evo is a lot more expensive than the 860 Evo.

The reason it will have seemed only a couple of quid different, I suspect, is that there was already a cheap 250gb SSD in the M.2 slot.

In reality it's £50 more expensive.

I'd still recommend it over an 860 Evo + 250gb junk M.2 SSD, just worth being aware it does cost a bit more :) And totally agreed with the monitor etc.

I just saw you're using the special "Asus" configurator. Which is also known as the "tip money down Asus's greedy face" configurator. https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/computers/intel-z370-asus/

If you check the regular configurator here: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/computers/intel-z370-pc/

You will notice how the Asus RTX 2080 is truly loltastic £200 (?!?!?!?!?!) more than a regular RTX 2080. What even is that pricing.

If you were spending over £200 to go up from a regular 2080 to the Asus branded one you might as well spend another £180 to go to a (non-asus) 2080 ti.

Also the motherboard selection is Asus-only. Whereas in the general configurator you can go for the Gigabyte Ultra Gaming which is about £70 less expensive and has pretty well all the same features except for wifi and bluetooth, which I assume you don't need(?)

Save yourself £200-£300 of Asus Tax. Spend some of what you save on a bigger SSD.. or for that kind of money a holiday.. or something.

Edit: Just saw your comment above. The Zotac 2080's cooling is absolutely fine. That's not even close to being an issue, and even if the Asus's was better than Zotac's .. £200+ .. really :/ Just get a damn 2080 ti and be done with it.

You can also get the system pre-overclocked here:

I have an innate dislike of Asus.

Some years ago I bought a 17" gaming rig from them. On paper it was a stunning machine. In reality it was plagued with faults and spent more time with them being "repaired" than it did in my possession.

When threatened with things like the sales of goods act they refused to budge and literally said they'd prefer to see a customer in court than honour it as that approach puts most people off...at the time I was less inclined to actually go to the small claims courts than I would be now. Young family, lack of time etc.

It ate through two GPU's, a motherboard, 2 CPUs, a trackpad and a keyboard...

It had various issues like not being able to keep up with even a moderately fast typer - it would miss keys; the touchpad was a weird proximity sensing device and would pick a finger (or hand) up from over 10mm away and go nuts, sending the pointer all over the place and imagining taps galore.

I'm sure there were many other issues as well but I've forgotten since it's about 9 years ago now.

In the end I sold it off at a massive loss, with the issues listed.

They just stuck in my mind as a company I'd prefer to avoid since then so it doesn't surprise me they take a default milk-the-customer line

You're really gonna pay £200 over a regular GTX 2080 for an Asus branded one, when it's less than another £200 more for a 2080 ti?

Was most post TLDR or something?
