Just ordered this bad boy!

Hey all

New to this and haven't bought a PC since 2005! - so bare with me... and that was a IMac!

I'm a business owner so needed a new Laptop and took the jump into PCS after seeing the specs and reviews. I'm going to be using this mainly for presenting and building projects with the very odd bit of small video editing. anyways check out the spec - would love to hear your thoughts. I guess the GPU isn't fantastic but won't be under load for gaming etc.

Due to the configurators' pricing quirks, I assume, the Vyper chassis is actually about £40 cheaper with the same spec but a GTX 1050 ti graphics card (which is quite a bit faster and could be an asset for video editing)

It has an HDMI port as a display output while the cosmos has a couple of DP 1.3 ports too, but if that's not important the Vyper seems much better value. If you need the DP outputs e.g. because you will connect 2 external monitors at the same time then the Cosmos is fine.

Whether Cosmos or Vyper, I'd also suggest getting the RAM as 2x8gb so that it's dual channel, assuming you won't need 32gb RAM which it sounds like you won't, and a faster M.2 NVMe SSD like the WD Black or 970 Evo.

Seems like 6 of one and half a dozen of the other to me?

the 2133mhz 8GB ram worries me... i will probably stick another 16gb stick in at some point and potentially use the machine for audio production too so 2400mhz is future proofing in that sense ( i should've mentioned i've changed that in the original spec).... GPU is really not that important to me. also not a fan of RGB Keyboards and the lack of 6 in 1 card reader

Obviously take the RAM frequency you like :) I'd go for 2666 MHz personally but that would preclude the 1x16gb option. The Vyper supports the same choices as the Cosmos in terms of 1x16gb RAM.

The keyboard backlighting can be controlled via the included software. The Vyper has an SD card reader just like the Cosmos. The 6-in-1 is marketing referring to the use of adapters to make it take more card sizes e.g. micro SD plugged into an SD card adapter. I don't know why they didn't apply the same marketing to the Vyper since as far as the PC is concerned a micro SD card plugged into an SD card is just an SD card.

The Recoil II chassis (also Tongfang like the Vyper) too is listed as 2-in-1 but does indeed work with SDXC cards as well as SD/MMC for instance.

If you video edit with software that uses GPU acceleration then the GPU seems important. If the GPU isn't important at all then there's no point buying a GTX 1050 instead of the MX150 in the Cosmos.

If you don't need the DP ports then it's a no brainer to go with Oussebon's suggestion IMO. More spec for less money is just common sense.

I would definitely pay the extra few quid for the highest frequency RAM though, as already mentioned.

The reason for the lack of participation in the thread is likely there's nothing to add to what has already been suggested.
