Hi Guys

Looking to order a new Gaming laptop for around £1000, has anyone got one of the Vyper laptops already and can give a few pros and cons? I can only find one 3rd party review online.

I had a PSC defiance a few years ago that was built on the Clevo p650se chassis, does anyone know who makes the Vyper chassis?

Spec I'm looking at:

i think the lack of display port is going to kill it for me, which is a shame as its at a decent price point

Yeah only one HDMI out at the back

You can buy USB to Displayport adaptors but I've never used one personally. I've used USB to VGA and that was fine but it was office apps.

I use two extra monitors for work and one is also a 1440p G-sync screen, I would like to atleast be able to use it all properly.

I don't know whether the HDMI port is 2.0 or not - if it is, this would be enough for the 1440p 144hz monitor? Assuming it too has HDMI 2.0 and accepts the high refresh via that.

But it's a moot point perhaps as the HDMI port is its only display output, so no support for a pair of external monitors - without USB adapters anyway and I'm not sure if that's a sound approach.

yeah i think id rather just get a laptop that has enough support for two external monitors via DP or hdmi

How about the Optimus? It's ~£100 more for a similar spec, though the screen is 144hz and (I believe) IPS rather than TN as on the Vyper.

Or the Recoil which is a similar price with a 60hz IPS (I believe) screen, but is thinner and half a kilo lighter than the Vyper or Optimus:

Recoil 15.6": https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/recoil-ii-15/UB2mPpVg2R/ (£1184)
Optimus 15.6": https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/optimusix-15/n9mp6umDhP/ (£1181)
Optimus 17.3": https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/optimusix-17/CqwV6Pvtcg/ (£1196)

Do check with PCS for exact panels they are using if that is important.

Also unless you're pretty sure you're really going to need 32gb RAM, I'd suggest getting 2x8gb so that the RAM is dual channel rather than single.

What difference is it if one goes for single channel 1x16Gb ram rather than 2×8Gb dual channel memory?, l presume its the speed and cost, if someone wants to buy16gb now and wants to upgrade to another 16gb later that is cheaper than buying 2x16gb later

There are 2 slots for the RAM in most laptops. So if you want 16gb RAM you can either get 1x16gb or 2x8gb.

If you buy 1x16gb, you can add another stick of RAM later for 32gb RAM easily. If you buy 2x8gb you can still replace those with 2x16gb in the future, but obviously that's not as cost effective.

However, for the overwhelming majority of consumers 16gb is more than enough. And RAM in dual channel (2x8gb) will give more performance: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/foru...-Hardware-FAQs&p=397286&viewfull=1#post397286

Unless you video edit for a living, or you run lots of virtual machines, or you do things like 3d rendering, you don't even need to consider 32gb RAM. For office uses, gaming, casual photo or video editing, 16gb is plenty.
