Laptop docking stations

Thinking of getting a Cosmos laptop for office/work productivity tasks (no gaming). The one thing I'm not sure about is what kind of docking station do I need to purchase for this? I want to connect via the dock: 2 x FHD monitors, keyboard, mouse, network cable and a few other USB peripherals. There doesn't seem to be an option on the website to add a docking station so I was looking on Amazon for suitable options and came across this: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MQ2SF02

Is this the kind of docking station that I need and will it work for this laptop? Will it work by just connecting to the two together via a USB type C cable? (which will provide all the data and power requirements)?

Any help would be greatly appeciated.

Good question, I would like to know that as well.

Recoil II RTX laptop - need to be able to connect 2 screens and ideally power laptop. What docking stations we should be looking at?

Thanks

I tried getting a Plugable UD-6950 but it has a very common issue with USB devices not working properly. Causes keyboard sticky keys, mouse stutter, audio glitches etc. Video output seemed okay but the USB glitch is a common issue. Ended up returning those and going for one from StarTech.com instead. Hopefully that'll be better.

I'm not sure whether anyone on here will know, unless someone has already gone down that road. I would suggest you phone PCS and talk this over with them. :)

Nowadays most people go down the USB3 DisplayLink solutions. We use them in work and they are fantastic. USB-C variants will sometimes power the Laptop as well, much like a conventional dock, but unfortunately I think the performance laptops would use far too much juice for that.

We've got a bunch of Lenovo's that use USB C type docking units.

I'm very impressed - small form factor, no noticeable display issues/performance issues (though it's worth noting they only run office applications).

Thanks for you replies. I have contacted PCspecialist and they confirmed that (at least my selected RTX II recoil) is not capable to be used with docking station which would have single cable to laptop for 2 screens, keyboard, mouse etc and would charge the laptop at the same time. From what I read you need USB supporting Thunderbolt or Alternate DP and their laptops do not come with these.

It is my mistake for not investigating before ordering, but it is a bit disappointing still, especially with high end laptop like this..

you can use USB C dock, but this uses video adaptor or smth, and video quality might suffer judging by reviews. Also this means you will need to carry a charger from one place to another rather than be able to use dock for charging...

this was their response:

Thank you for the email. The USB 3.1 ports are data and power only. They are not Thunderbolt or DisplayPort capable.

From my understand it looks like you’d benefit from a docking station like this one found on amazon - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Plugable-U...ons&keywords=usb+type+c+docking+station&psc=1

It simply connects to a single USB Type C connection from your laptop and provides all the ports on the dock station.

It cannot charge your device at the same time however.

Any of our new laptops supporting a USB type C connection should have the ability to use this dock. You have to be careful however as

Some USB type C headers don’t have display capabilities built in to them.

If you need anything else, please don’t hesitate to ask,

Even with a single cable option like thunderbolt I doubt it would carry enough current to power a high end laptop regardless. It's more for the business line laptop with low power consumption. I'm sure there's a limitation to the power output from them and I doubt they would ever power a high end laptop.

A dual cable solution is likely to be your only option.

However, I would be surprised if the display link USB 3.1 offerings didn't work. I don't see anything particularly fancy about the laptops we currently use, I believe it's a data connection that is used.... rather than video output. The display link hub does the data>video transition.
